Host: With the price of gas skyrocketing, we at WatchMojo.com decided to ask an expert for tips to consuming less gas. The factor that we have the most control over is how we drive our car, can you maybe go into detail about that?
Douglas Labelle: In Europe, what we can see is that they use eco-driving to coin a set of habits where if the driver is less aggressive will use less gas, will, of course, concentrate also on security.
Host: Okay, would you go into more detail on how we can do it?
Douglas Labelle: Ideally, one would keep a constant road speed, you better say below a 100 kilometers an hour but there is no big difference in terms of fuel economy between 90 kilometers an hour up to a 100 kilometers an hour.
Host: How much gas are we saving if we do a 100 instead of a 120?
Douglas Labelle: It's in the area of 20% but if we go from a 120 to a 100 kilometers an hour.
When you go filling your gas tank instead of paying $80, it may be $65 or $70.
Host: Are there any tips we were constantly doing but actually are just a myth?
Douglas Labelle: Many people will buy a small car and believe that they have done their share, but if you buy a small car and you don't eco-drive, you don't give the full potential to your wallet and to the nature. The other thing that everyone should take care of is unnecessary extra weight in the vehicle. Whenever you are finished with your ride, you should take it out because it will generate more fuel consumption.
Host: Anything else you should consider?
Douglas Labelle: You have to keep repeating to yourself, okay, what can I do today, what have I done yesterday and what can I do tomorrow to do better with my records.
