Hi, I am going to share with you on how to save money on vacation meals.
The first thing I recommend you to is eat locally. No matter where you are in a country, eat the food of the country that you are living in. If you are in Mexico, enjoy Mexican cuisine; if you are in France, enjoy French cuisine; if you are in the Middle-east, enjoy Middle-eastern cuisine.
Well that brings me to my second point. Try not to open your pallet, try to expand your pallet, and not bring your American experience to the country that you are visiting. You don't need to have normal food as you might find yourself calling at, you don't need to look for the name brand food chains that you are most comfortable with.
This is an opportunity for you to really sophisticate your pallet and it's a lot cheaper. These big name chain that we are all familiar with are importing into these countries and this is where you can experience the $14 hamburger versus the 50 cents hotdog.
A third way to save money is to avoid eating in your hotel unless you have a dining breakfast or you are getting a free continental breakfast, hotel meals are very expensive, room service is very expensive, there is always added fees. So take a step outside of your hotel and look at whatever somewhere in the corner and most likely it's a cute Mom & Pop place for you to check out.
It's also important to remember when you are traveling to developing nations that the water isn't always as clean as the water that we are used to and there is bacterias in different foods that we are not accustomed to. So it is important to then spend the extra money on bottled water, and other bottles, and packaged items to make sure that you don't end up with the costly health insurance fill. See the health insurance video.
Last, what I tend to do is I tend to buy groceries for my breakfast and lunch meals and then I go out for a big dinner. So that way I am able to get to know a local supermarket, I am able to eat later, eat on the go, avoid tipping, and I am still being able to experience the cafe or like culture by eating in a good restaurant. So that's a little bit of the saving and splurging all that I talked about earlier.
In doing that, I guess, what I always remember doing in Europe when I traveled to Europe was that I would buy a big bag, and buy some cheese, and buy some tomato, and that's what sustain me for the day and you can find those versions of that in every country.
You are not going to get of that in Asia but you are going to get some version of that and take that on the road and enjoy.
