Mobile shopping with the iPhone by simply scanning barcodes
So, we are going to find out what this XBOX 360 here which is $199.00 best buy is costing online and what the reviews are for the lot of people bought it before. And we are going to find this out by just scanning the barcode which is on the product. I am going to do this with the help of the special case built by Griffin which has a lens which can just slide in front of your camera whenever you need it. So you can take photos of real near objects.
I am going to start the Snapper Application on the iPhone. I am going to touch the scan screen which fires up the camera of the phone. We are going to place the camera right above the barcode. There you go. It looks pretty good, pretty crisp and clear. We are going to say use photo. And what the application is now doing after the iPhone has saved the photo, it is sending the barcode to the snappr.net servers and it is going to find out want the prices are at different web services like Amazon, Shopzilla and some others. Actually, oh yes, it found it already. We open Safari to display the product and after a second of loading you see XBOX 360 Arcade Bundle $199.00 in Amazon. The rating is pretty good and read by 61 people. So, I am actually going to buy this here.
Snapper also works pretty good with CDs and DVDs. So, we have the Radiohead In Rainbows album here and we are going to do the same thing. We scan the barcode to a snapper. Start the iPhone application and scan the code; totally clear. Say use photo and the application is now not only looking for the price or the reviews of the product, it is also collecting additional information. So which is – here we go. Radiohead $9.99 at Amazon; it has an awesome rating, it is really good music. And we can see the tracks and we also have the YouTube music videos or the iTunes links so I could buy single songs or I could go to the YouTube link here which opens up the native YouTube Application of the iPhone and it should show me the music video of that song the second to play.
