Hi this is PC Roger. In this short video tip I want to talk about saving yourself some time and aggravation by having some documentation on your home or office network.
Now hopefully you have where your internet comes in, some type of hard work firewall or router and it look something like this, a Linksys router. Now at this particular unit you can see that I have the IP address and it says DHTP off which means I’m not letting the unit to create address and scheme for the network and there can be a variety of reasons, but the point is it’s not going to do it.
But I can access this box with the IP dress on here and it may or may not be the default to comes with it. I usually don’t use the Default just to keep it from comforting with maybe other devices, and on the back side I might have the user name and password access the device. And that would be for protecting just from outside routes and that people inside. They figure if they can actually enhance even take and probably give it a nature in any way with the right knowledge.
So what we’ve done is labeled it with such information we think we might need in the future to be able to access the device and don’t have to struggle in order to determine what type of special configuration they might come up with that could not be perhaps documented somewhere else, and we do recommend doing that but still it happens, so I have to use many things labeled on the outside and save yourself the aggravation.
And that particular unit you cannot even reset to the fact that follows a rule of switch anymore who just doesn’t during the thing when you press the switch, but by accessing the address we have labeled on it we can still use the device. We have one other Linksys device at one time. We first to have a reset now is the last thing you have to hear about that box. It was unusual after that, so sometimes it is easy just to have the address, have it available, password is.
Here we have a much more sophisticated on my firewall. It support the net firewall and you have some quality more fortune back and it has different networking options, so we have both the line on network a line and the DMC. All these things we try to label on the front along with the username and password, so that we can access the device again with the password on the front of it. We’re not protecting just to what is inside, there’s a trusted people in this case, and we’re protecting instead from —like something outside.
But we always also have this nice information and some electronic password safes, and they are some pretty ones I have a link to one on my website, and hopefully you will use this information to go on with the label some of the devices in your home or office, so you know what your address is, how to access them, what’s the username, what the password because I'm not trying to reset or recover in later day and just save yourself to a lot of headaches.
So I hope you have enjoyed watching this short video. I hope you’ve got something out of it. Please visit my website PCRoger.com, a lot of videos, other hopeful information and thank you for watching.
