How to Save a Severed Finger
Dr. Travis Stork: So, if you accidentally -- “Oh!” you know --
Dr. Drew Ordon: Oh!
Dr. Jim Sears: Oh, Travis, I’m going to need that back
Dr. Travis Stork: You know, so this happens. First thing, stop the bleeding, as Drew said. Apply direct pressure. Get the bleeding to stop. Then, get the fingertip, okay?
Dr. Drew Ordon: Don’t lose that finger.
Dr. Travis Stork: Dry gauze, wrap it in dry gauze. Then, put it -- can you pull the cooler for me.
Dr. Lisa Masterson: Absolutely.
Dr. Travis Stork: Put it in a plastic bag. And the reason for this is you don’t want this sitting directly on ice. It will basically ruin the tissue in the severed part, so it can’t be re-attached.
Dr. Jim Sears: It’s only to keep it cool.
Dr. Travis Stork: You want to keep it cool and they may be able to re-attach it.
Dr. Drew Ordon: And hand them the cooler and say, “What can you do?”
Dr. Travis Stork: There you go buddy.
Dr. Drew Ordon: Thank you.
