How to Save on Home Moving Costs
Better
Rhiannon Ally: Switching gears now is there a move in your future. Well Jeanette
Pavini has some tips on dealing with movers in today’s Better ways to
save.
Jeanette Pavini: If you’re moving across town or across country you need a plan
and here’s some better ways to save. Ask your mover how much of a
discount they can offer on the rate if you’re moving during a busy summer
month don’t expect as big a discount as you’ll get if you’re moving in
February. There’s a big demand last and first days of the month for
movers and on weekends if you can give movers flexible dates for pick up
and arrival you may have more options and save more money.
If you can do your own packing, after getting rid of things you really don’t
need. Now one of the biggest ways to save is on packing materials. You
can get discounted supplies online and at big box stores or saved by using
contractor bags that you can buy at home improvement stores instead of
boxes. Anywhere you get packing supplies will be cheaper than buying
them from the movers and sometimes the price to use the movers for
packing may be worth it but only if you have delicate items and the mover
has packing expertise.
You should keep records of your move charitable donations and other
parts of your move may be tax deductible. It also is important to get
several bids from movers remember a bid is only as good as the
information you supply to the mover and beware of companies that ask for
cash or large deposits before the move. Be sure to check mover references
and the better business bureau for better information regarding movers
before signing any agreement.
