“I am American, but I speak a little Chinese”
Hello! Welcome to the Chinese Learn Lessons. My name is Len and today I would like to teach you one sentence in Chinese and that is “I am American, but I speak a little Chinese” so this has been a request on YouTube and I recommend everybody to send me a request on YouTube for the words you want to describe in Chinese.
So “I am American, but I speak a little Chinese” in Chinese, wo shi mei guo ren, jiang yi dian zhong wen. So I would like you to grab a pen and a piece of paper and we will go through the pronunciations before we go through the demonstrations of each Chinese characters.
Okay, let’s have a look at this sentence wo shi mei guo ren, jiang yi dian zhong wen so the first character wo means I; the second character shi means confirmed. It came in yes or is and in this sentence it means am. To surf to the fifth character, mei guo ren means American so mei means beautiful and guo means the country. However, mei guo means America and ren means person so mei guo ren- American.
The next character is jiang which means speak told by the character yi which means one. And the next character is dian which means a dot so yi dian means a little.
The last two characters are zhong wen so zhong means middle and wen means a language. Zhong wen altogether means Chinese Language or simply just Chinese. So the whole sentence wo shi mei guo ren, jiang yi dian zhong wen.
Let’s have a look at each individual character. The first character is wo which you can see that it’s more likely a left and right structure to character. The pronunciation of this character is W-O. So W pronounced W and O pronounced O which the third tone that is going from up to down and then up again, it is wo, wo, wo and in the shorter version wo, wo, wo.
The next character is shi which means confirmed. It can be yes or is and in this sentence it means am. However, you can use it for are as well so shi is more likely up and down structure to character. You can see the pronunciation is S-H-I. So SH is pronounced SH and I pronounced I which is the fourth tone. Altogether it pronounce Shi, shi, shi or in the shorter version shi, shi, shi.
Next character is mei which means beautiful. Mei is more likely an up and down structure of character so whe you write this character, you write it from up to down. You can see that the pronunciation is M-E-I so M pronounced M and EI pronounced ei which is the third tone is going from up to down and then up again. It is mei, mei, mei or in the shorter version mei, mei, mei.
The next character is guo which means a country so guo is more likely an inside out structure to character. The trick of writing this character is to write the outer frame and then the inside and then cover it up at the bottom. You can see that the pronunciation is G-U-O. So G pronounced G and U pronounced U, O pronounced O which is the second tone that is going from down to up. It is guo, guo,guo or in the shorter version guo, guo, guo.
The next character is ren which means a person. And you can see that the symbol actually looks a little bit like a person as well. The pronunciation is R-E-N. So R pronounced R and EN pronounced EN which is the second tone that is going from down to up. It is ren, ren, ren or in the shorter version: ren, ren, ren.
The next character is jiang which means to speak. So you can seethe pronunciation is J-I-A-N-G. So J pronounced J and I pronounced I; A and G pronounced ANG which is the third tone that is going from up to down and the up again. It is jiang, jiang, jiang or in the shorter version: jiang, jiang, jiang.
The next character is yi which is very simple. It’s just one line. And you can see that the pronunciation is Y-I. So Y pronounced Y but I also pronounced I which is the first tone that is totally flat. It is yi, yi,yi or in the shorter version: yi, yi, yi.
The next character is dian means one dot and it is an up and down structure to character. You can see that the pronunciation is D-I-A-N. So D pronounced D; I pronounced I and AN pronounced ANG which is the thirdtone that is going from upto down and then up again. It is dian, dian, dian or in the shorter version: dian, dian, dian.
The next character is zhong which means middle so zhong is more likely a simple character for its own component. You can see that the pronunciation is Z-H-O-N-G. So the H pronounced Z and ONG pronounced ong which is the first one that is totally flat. It is zhong, zhong, zhong or in the shorter version: zhong, zhong, zhong.
The next character which is the last one is wen. So wen means a language and you can see that it is quite a simple for the writing. The pronunciation is W-E-N. So W pronounced W and EN pronounced EN which is the second that is going from down to up. It is wen, wen, wen or in the shoter version: wen, wen, wen.
That’s fantastic so let’s breathe the whole sentence once more: wo shi mei guo ren, jiang yi dian zhong wen. Okay so let’s have a look at the demonstration of the writing for each Chinese character.
