Hello. Welcome to Chinese learn, Chinese lessons, many name is Len and today I would like to teach you one sentence in Chinese and that is ‘See you next time.’ So this is a phrase that I have been using many time s at the end of my videos and I’ve been asked a lot my by my YouTube friends what exactly does it mean hòu hùi you qi so hòu hùi you qi actually means, ‘see you next time.’ I’d like you to grab a pen and a piece of paper and we will go through everything about this sentence, the writing, the pronunciations and the meaning of each Chinese character.
Okay, let’s have a look at this sentence ‘hòu hùi you qi.’ So the first character hòu means after. The second character hùi means meet. The third character yǒu means have and the last character qi means a period of time. You can say that as a date as well. So hòu hùi you qi; ‘after meet have a day’ or in English, ‘we will meet again someday.’ Sometimes I’ll say that instead of saying ‘see you next time.’ So let’s have a look at each individual character, the writing and the pronunciations. I would like you to bring a pen and a piece of paper and I will go through the pronunciation of each character before I go through all the writing.
The first character is hòu. You can see that it is a simple structure character. The way of writing it is from up to down and the pronunciation is h ò u which we also call that pin ying So h pronounced and ò u pronounced o with the fourth tone that goes from up to down, it is hòu or in the shorter version hòu.
The second character is hùi ,you can see that it is a up and down structure, character so the way of writing this character is from up to down and you can see that the pronunciation is h u i so h pronounced h and ui pronounced ui with the fourth tone that goes from up to down. It is hui, or in the shorter version hui.
The third character is yǒu which means have. Yǒu is an up and down structure character and you can see that the pronunciation is y o u, so y pronounced yǒu so y pronounced y and ou pronounced ou with the third tone that is going from up to down and then up again, it is yǒu or in the shorter version yǒu.
The last character is qi and you can see that it is a l left and right structure character and each component you’ll write it from up to down. So qi for the pronunciation is q i. So q pronounced qi and i pronounced i with the first tone that is totally flat it is qi or in the shorter version qi. Okay so the whole sentence for three times. We will meet again someday.
Okay that’s fantastic. Let’s go through the demonstration of writing each Chinese character. Hòu hùi you qi
