Hello welcome to Chinese Learning Chinese Lessons. My name is Len and today I would like to teach you one sentence in Chinese and that is “Would you like to go to a dinner with me?” So this has been a request on YouTube and I recommend everybody to send me a request on YouTube where the words you want to speak in Chinese. I can transform them in to such media elections like this one. Ten minutes time to teach you one sentence in Chinese. So would you like to go a dinner with me? In Chinese, “yi qi chi dun fan, hao ma? Would you like to grab a pen and a piece of paper and we will go through the pronunciations and then the demonstrations of each Chinese character.
Okay let’s have a look at this sentence. “Yi qi chi dun fan, hao ma? So the first and the second character “yi qi” means together. The third character “chi” means eat and the fourth character “dun” is a quantifier to represent how many meals you have. The fifth character “fan” is meal so “dun fan” means a meal. In Chinese we have different quantifiers to represent different things how many or how much of them.
So for the next character you can see that it is “hao” means good and the last character “ma” doesn’t have an actual meaning. It is there to represent a question, without saying ma this sentence will turn into a statement. Otherwise, you are asking a question.
So, “yi qi chi dun fan, hao ma? Together eat a meal good or in English would you like to go to dinner with me? So let’s have a look at each individual character. First we start from the pronunciations. The first character is “yi” and you can see that it is very simple for the writing so for the pin ying it is y-i. Y pronounced “e” and “i” pronounced e so y-i all together was the first tone pronounced yi, yi, yi or in the shorter version yi, yi, yi
The second character is “qi” means up or to get up. You can see that the pronunciation is qi so ‘q” in Chinese actually pronounced qi and “I” in Chinese pronounce “yi” with third tone base going from up to down and then up again. It is “qi, yi” or in the shorter version “qi yi”.
The third character is “chi” which means eat. So you can see that the pronunciation is chi ch sh and “i” yi but ch i together actually pronounce chi which is the first tone. It is chi, chi, chi or in the shorter version chi, chi ,chi.
The fourth character is dun so as we said dun was a quantifier for a meal so you can see that the pronunciation is d-u-n and “d” pronounced th while un pronounced “un” with the fourth tone that is going from up to down it is dun or in the shorter version dun.
The next character is “fan” so fan means a meal and you can see that, the opinion is fan so ‘f’ pronounced for and a n pronounced ang with the fourth tone there is going from up to down it is for an fan or in the shorter version fan.
The next character is hao which means good. You can see that the pronunciation is hao so h pronounced h and ao pronounced ao with the third tone so its going to up to down and then up again. It is hao, hao, hao or in the shorter version hao, hao, hao.
The last character is ma and you can see that ma represents a question and it doesn’t have an actual meaning. You can see from the pronunciation is m-a. So m pronounced mo and a pronounced a with the tone of no tones which means you whispered this character it is ma, ma, ma so all together for the whole sentence for three times “yi qi chi dun fan, hao ma? “yi qi chi dun fan, hao ma? “yi qi chi dun fan, hao ma?
That’s fantastic let’s get down to the demonstration for writing these Chinese characters.
