Hello welcome to Chinese Learning Centers. My name is Len and today I would like to teach you one sentence in Chinese and that is “Could you call a taxi for me please?” So could you call a taxi for me in Chinese “Ni ke yi bang wo jiao laing di shi ma”. So this has been a request on YouTube and I recommend everybody to send me a request on You Tube for the words you want to describe in Chinese and I can transform then into such mini lessons for you.
So learn one Chinese sentence in the lesson. So “Ni ke yi bang wo jiao laing di shi ma”. Would you like to grab a pen and a piece of paper and we both go through the reading, the writing and the plan sessions of this sentence.
Okay so let’s have to look at this sentence. “Ni ke yi bang wo jiao laing di shi ma”. So the first character the ‘ni” means you, the second and the third character “ke yi” is one single word in Chinese and that means may. The fourth character bang means help and the next character “wo” means I or me, for by the next character “jiao” which means call and the next character “liang” is a quantifier in Chinese for land vehicles. So in Chinese, different things have got different quantifiers in order to represent how many or how much of them.
The next two characters “di shi” means taxi. So “di shi” is more likely a vocal translation from taxi and the last character “ma” is actually a symbol to represent a question. I like you to grab a pen and piece of paper when we go to the writing path but first of all let’s have to look at the pronunciations but each Chinese characters so the first character is ‘ni kei” which means you and you can see that the pronunciation is n-i. So n pronounced n and i pronounced e all together with a certain it is “ni yi”in the shorter version ni, yi.
The next character is ke which means to approve so “ke” if you have to look at the pronunciation it is k-e so k you pronounce k and e pronounce e with a third tone that is going from up to down and then up again.
It is ke or in the shorter version ke. The next character is yi which means according to but ke yi is a single word which means may so ke yi. If you have a look at the pronunciation it is y –i. So y pronounce ‘e” and i pronounced e with a third tone that goes from up to down and then up again. It is ke yi, ke yi or in a shorter version ke yi.
The next character is bang. So bang means to help and you can see that the opinion which is the pronunciation on the top of the character is b-a-n-g so b pronounced bo and ang pronounced ang with the first tone that is totally flat it is bang, bang, bang or in the shorter version bang, bang, bang.
The next character is wo which means i so you can see that the pronunciation is wo so w pronounced “u” and o pronounce o with the third tone that is going from up to down and then up again. It is wo, wo, wo or in the shorter version wo, wo, wo. The next character is jiao which means to call in this sentence. It can mean shout as well. So jiao. If you have a look at the pronunciation it is j-i-a-o.
So j you pronounce ti and iao pronounce yao so with the first tone that is going from up to down it is jiao, jiao, jiao or in the shorter version jiao, jiao. The next character is liang. So liang as I mentioned is a quantifier for land vehicles. In Chinese different things have got different quantifiers to represent how many or how much of them, so liang if you have to look at the pronunciation is l-i-a-n-g so l pronounced la and i pronounced e ang you pronounced ang and with the fourth tone that goes from up to down. The whole pronunciation is liang, liang, liang or in the shorter version liang, liang, liang.
The next character is d this character can be used as t as well. In order to connect adjectives to verbs, in this sentence it is t itself means accurate with this pronounciaiton. So in Chinese we have one character of several pronunciation sometimes which each pronunciation as it means different things. So di if you’ll look at the pronunciation it is di so di pronounced t and i pronounced e with the first tone that is totally flat it is di, di, di or in the shorter version di, di, di.
The next character is shi so by this character itself means a learned person. So we use this character in the word of proffesionals, master and doctors. You can see that for the pronunciation “shi” is s-h-i so sh pronounced sh and i pronounced e so all together with the fourth tone it is shi, shi, shi or in the shorter version shi, shi, shi. So in this sentence “di shi” means taxi is actually just a vocal translation. It doesn’t have actual meaning from the character but this di shi sounds a little bit like taxi and it is the formal translation vocal from taxi in English.
The last character is “ma” so you can see that ma is left and right structure to carry to. Ma represents a question in a sentence. If you have a look at the pronunciation it is ma so ma pronounced m and a pronounced a with the tone of tone which means you whisper this character it is ma, ma, ma. That’s fantastic let’s go show the demonstration of writing each Chinese character.
[Demonstration]
