Male: If you’re considering a home theater for your house, you could convert a basement, a spare bedroom, or family room and avoid the hassles of going to your local multiplex. Among the many components of making a home theater, what type of sitting you choose can have a big impact on your home viewing experience. Rose Pefhany of Irwin Sitting Company is an expert in home theater design.
Rose: I would say that the sitting has the biggest visual impact and sets the mood for the room. This is a bedroom, It’s a 13 x 6 room, and if you had a sofa in here it would look more like a den, even with all the electronics and the screen and lighting and everything. With a sofa it would still be a den.
With the theater sitting, and risers, it really transforms any room into a theater. The performance VIP family that we have here allows you to integrate different styles of seats that look the same. You can have recliners, you can have club chairs, you can have proper theater chairs that all look the same that give you different styles, different comfort levels, different footprints. You can have recliners in the front that have either automated or manual recline mechanisms.
With our sitting you can really configure the chairs any way you want to accommodate any type of sitting. You can take this model, and you can take out the legs and the table in between, and put the chairs together and have love seats, 3 chairs in row, 4 chairs in a row, as many chairs as you want. Or you could put legs in between, have storage in the arm rest, they open up and have storage, power and data. You can have heating massage in them. We have shakers that go in them that make you feel all the rumbles in the movie that really add to the movie experience. You can have the matching club chairs that have the same wood finishes everywhere. We also have this really cool flip-up arm rest that allows you to snuggle with the person next door to you.
These chairs are upholstered in high grade Italian leather. They’re two tone. You can do them as a two tone or a single tone. We have 14 colors of leather, 10 colors of velvet, or you can use a customers own material if you’re working with an interior designer who wants to specify their own fabric. We have 5 choices of maple stain for all the woods on the chairs it’s a high grade furniture finish so you don’t have any problems with spills.
Male: When it comes to building out a home theater, you have a lot of choices, starting with the TV. You can go with standard television, rear projection or even a projector. When it comes to the sound, there are a lot of things you can do. Acoustic panels for absorption, diffuser panels, even reflective panels. But for the true audio file, you’ve got to consider the sits because they do affect the sound quality.
Rose: With this model you can have either a low back or a high back. And on the low back version you have an optional headrest that articulates in telescopes so that it gives you support to your neck while you’re watching a movie in a recline position. This is important because for the true audio files, when you’re spending a lot of money on your sound system in the room, you don’t want to block that sound with a high back chair.
Male: The theater seats in this home feature Irwin’s Ambassador Line.
Rose: We have loungers for the ambassador, rockers, regular theater chairs and loveseats so you can mix and match the chairs within the room, and still have a very uniform look. Everything is made-to-order to the customers specifications. You can combine any chairs any configuration, any sitting heights, fabric colors, leather colors, anything you want, everything is made-to-order in a two to three week turn-around time.
