When you need to select a part of an image in your file, you can use the marquee tool if you’d like to select that. Your marquee tool is the second tool in your toolbox. And go ahead and click on the triangle at the very bottom of the button and you have four selections here. You have your rectangular, your elliptical, your single row and your single column. The first two are going to be used a lot and they’re really popular, they’re really quick way to do some selections.
So let’s go ahead and see how this work. Click on your rectangular marquee tool and then you’re going to get a cross here where you want to begin your selection at. Go ahead and click with your mouse and then drag down to create your rectangle. Let go and this is the area that you have selected now.
Now if you decide you don’t want to make that selection, you can use the keyboard shortcut of control and D and it will deselect. Another thing with the rectangular marquee tool is that you can hold down your shift key while drawing your rectangle and it’s going to make a perfect square for you.
Okay, let’s go ahead and let’s look at the next one. Your elliptical marquee tool, you could see that draws a circle, control-D to deselect and you can also hold down your shift key again and you’ll get a perfect circle.
Now, you also have the last two options, which are your single row and your single column and those you simply just need to select and then you can drag down to get your row selection or to get your column selection.
So those are how you make some selection with the marquee tools.
