How to Select a Single Malt Scotch

I think a great scotch is one where no one particular feature of taste or aroma leaves at you. First of all, I’d be looking for the clarity of the scotch. Are there any floating particles in it? Secondly, I would make sure that the aroma is full that it has softness and that it has a quiet strength. Also that I'm noticing grain, I'm noticing alcohol and I’m noticing maybe a little bit of wood influence.
And then of course, it's the taste. The taste, when it's actually lying on the ton you don’t want it to burn. You want it to be smooth. You want it to be satiny. So the taste is actually a combination of flavor and texture. When the flavor and texture are in perfect form, it's a very, very silky easy experience down the throat. And that's what I look for in a great scotch harmony.
