Male: The owners of this country home used natural materials in the interior wherever they could, granite countertops, the copper ceiling and slate floors and walls. They wanted to install portable cabinets that would complement these natural elements. Quality Cabinets offer them stock cabinets with a wide variety of sizes, door styles and color combinations that they can customized to reflect their personal style. The factory built cabinets arrived ready for installation. The installer first mounts the mulcher cabinets to the wall one by one.
Using wood screws, he screws the individual cabinets together which achieves the desired result. They look like one large cabinet. Since the mulcher cabinets are a standard 30-inch width, he adds filler panels when needed. Finally he applies the trim throughout adding decorative elements with a combination of moldings, fluted pillars and different rosettes. These cabinets and the face frames of the doors are milt with ¾-inch kiln drive maple hard wood with a cherry stain. The box itself is a mixture of plywood and particle board. The depth tail drawers had strength and durability. Karen Lambert of Quality Cabinets says it’s important to carefully consider all options and accessories when choosing cabinetry.
Karen: This is a handy thing to have in your kitchen. This is a tray-rack and you can put all your cookie sheets, anything flat, actually you can put anything you want in there. It’s very handy for all your trays.
Male: Instead of them all falling over on top of each other.
Karen: Well, yeah, or the way you should see the way mine are piled up.
Male: Yeah.
Karen: Something that’s very consistent throughout this house is this are great people love them. You get maximum access to the cabinet. It didn’t matter if your item is all the way back there, you can pull it all the way out and it’s wonderful.
Male: Makes it really easy to reach.
Karen: And we have them in varying widths and so that makes it handy too.
Male: Yeah, I love what you did with the cabinet as far as the depth changes as well as the height changes. So it really has a custom cabinet look.
Karen: Right, right.
Male: Very, very nice.
Karen: And the use of the moldings that we use all around that that helps that custom look too.
Male: And it doesn’t cost much to add a little bit of trim on the top and the bottom of them.
Karen: No, no, even when you add the fluted pillars and the rosettes, which that’s consistent throughout the house too. It really gives that custom look.
Male: Without spending much money.
Karen: Oh no, not at all.
Male: Yeah, I love the plate rack also. It adds a lot of detail to the cabinet.
Karen: People really do like this plus it’s handy especially if you go tell your kid to go grab some plates or something. They don’t have to wonder where they’re at or anything. And they can reach easily. So these are very popular right now. Here we have a small bottler’s pantry and what we did was we put a wine rack up here to store the wine bottles, down here a stemware holder for the wine glasses. We’ve got a cabinet here that’s going to have some glass doors in there, they haven’t been installed yet. And then to finish off this look and add just a little bit more storage, we added another end shelf here with the door, make it look like one complete cabinet but it’s actually there’s 3 cabinets there. Something special we did with this entertainment unit like the homeowner was looking for a DVD storage and we couldn’t find one to fit. What we did was we took one of our 9-inch bookcase cabinets, put a back on it and then add this finish door panel to the front, put on some full extension guide. So you don’t pull it out all the way, have access to all your DVD’s and they were pleased with it so that’s what we went with.
Male: That’s great and if you wanted to put a VHS and DVD’s both in, it’s all adjustable shelves
Karen: Right.
Male: Anything you want. Very, very handy and you don’t have to pay that custom price.
Karen: Right, there’s different species of woods. Each kind of wood reacts to stains differently and each kind of wood is price differently. So it really depends on your budget that you’re looking at. The dark highlights are hand applied glaze. The particular color in this kitchen is what we call licorice. And it works real well with this kind of a door style wood which has a little beading going around it and as well as the miters. The way it’s applied and then wiped off it allows the glaze to hang up in the certain areas giving it rather an antique look.
The laundry room obviously has a very different function than the kitchen or any of the other cabinetry in this house. We wanted to keep the look consistent but we also wanted to break up the look a little bit. There’s a variety of wall base and cabinets used in there but what we decided to do was go with a lighter stain still with the same door style but go with the lighter stain and the lighter glaze color.
Male: In the morning room, standard wall and bookcase cabinetry with glass door we’re built to surround a 5-foot wide 100 gallon of aquarium. A clever opening was devised for access above the aquarium. To flip up drawer fronts with lid stays. This hide the light and lid and will stay up for feeding fish and changing light bulbs. Combining a variety of cabinet sizes and storage, stains and glazes and a mix and match on moldings, a custom look was achieved at a stock price. The family in this house got all the functionality and storage they wanted as well as great looking cabinets that complement the natural stone and their interior.
