Welcome to PCWizKid’s Tech Talk. Today, I wanted to go through the Evolution mail in Ubuntu. Let’s set up through the screens here and launch the evolution set up assistant.
When you go through it, just put in your name and your email address and the account that you want to set this up for. In my case, it’s going to be my Gmail account. So I’ll just put my pcwizkid.tec.talk@Gmail.com. In your case, you will put in your own email address of the account that you want to set up. Then click on forward to move next screen, the server type for the incoming mail server is a pop account so we specify the pop account name in this case, for Gmail being specified that its pop.gmail.com so you put that in there and put in your user name for you account.
After you type that in, select the SSL encryption as the secure connection type and then check of your member password so that you don’t have to put it in every time it synchronizes.
On the next screen, you want to specify the incoming options and I want to leave the message on the server so that way, I can always go back incase I deleted it from my local copy here. For the outgoing mail server, you will specify the SMTP sever name which is SMTP.gmail.com and then it’s using an application as well so you just have to check on that security option to enable us to some encryption and don’t forget to check of the remember password option at the bottom. Then, we’ll click on forward to move forward to the next screen which has the time zone settings. So we want to specify the area that you’re in and it’s Eastern Standard Time area so I just slip that zone and the move over to the forward button.
Once its set up, you can launch the evolution mail and it’s pretty standard, the interface, it looks like the Mac OS mail or with the Outlook mail or any other mail program. It’s pretty much standard set up.
When you go to send and receive, it will ask you the password and put in your password to access your account. Once, that’s in there it’ll synchronize with the server and download. You can see it download messages in my case.
And that’s it, that’s how we set up the Evolution mail.
I hope you enjoyed this video and thanks for watching.
