If you're like me you want to be ready in a moment notice to make cocktails for unexpected guest. Here is a short list of liquid essentials you’ll want to have on hand.
Let’s start with our clear liqueurs vodka and gin. Now these are your staples. Vodka is a blank canvass, you can mix it up with almost anything. And gin well it’s not just pair with tonic, goes great with citrus juices and fun things like cucumber, basil.
Next, your dark liqueurs or age spirits, even when it’s not Kentucky Derby Day whiskey is a sure bet. It’s great for sipping and mixing. You’ll also want to pick up nice aged rum even if you’re not making fruity drinks who doesn’t like a rum and coke.
And here are a couple of important side kicks to have on hand. Triple sec, an orange flavored liqueur which goes great in a whole hostler drinks from the margarita to the Cosmo. And bitters, which in truth really aren’t bitter at all. They add a little spice to your cocktails. You’ll also want sweet vermouth from Manhattans and dry vermouth for martinis.
And last your old stand-by mixers club soda, tonic, ginger ale and cola. And a couple of juices like orange and cranberry but this liquid essentials on the house, you’ll be ready to make great drinks at a moments notice. Oh, I think I hear the door bell.
