Hello, my name is Chase, I’m the pet room manager at Eagles Zamzows, and I would like to talk
to you about setting up a guinea pig cage. One of the first thing you take into consideration when
setting up your cage would be the size of it, it has to be at least 36 by 18 and made up of a chew
proof material, and like this one, we do sell on our stores. And then the next will be the bedding,
you could use. Either use recycled paper or aspen shaving. One thing you do wanna stay away
from is cedar, causes respiratory illness and pine can be a little dusty. And what’s great about
this bedding, I like a lot, it’s by Care Fresh, looks pretty cool, last a long time and really absorbs
it, and when you put it in, you generally wanna do about 2 inches. You do like move stuff around
kinda this, it’s tricky to get it out of the bag. There we go, looks like one bag will do this whole
cage, and this should last you quite a while. You just kinda smooth it out, and then the next thing
I would put on would be to place your water dish. You want to do it somewhere very accessible,
where you’re able to get it on and off and you don’t want to do it on the door, maybe on the front
of the cage and this is a Critter Canteen. And this guys, you just strap this little thing around,
keep it onto the cage and then next, you’d put on your food. I usually keep it away from the
water, keep it in different sides of the cage, I do the opposite side. And this food dish is chew
proof, you don’t want anything that they’re gonna eat through and we filled it up with just
Garden guinea pig pellet food. And then, the next we’d put on would be this chew toy, this one’s
pretty cool, it hangs from the cage, it doesn’t lay in the bottom so it’s not in their bedding where
they go to the bathroom on it. And we also put a couple of salt licks on it, they’re just little
mineral blocks that do you have some good stuff on it. And you just hang that on the cage like
that, put it on, they like to play with it, they like the little bell. And, after with that, you can add
little things like this, these little pieces of wood or some bark bites and then the next thing you
would add will be your hay manger. This guy’s filled up with timothy hay and you just hang it
around the bars, it’s really easy, you don’t wanna do it very high so they don’t stand or anything.
And then you’d add your house, and you wanna make sure it’s chew proof and safe for pets and
this just gives them comfort getting away from people. Just take that into the corner, and then
maybe an additional chew toy, they do need a lot of stuff to chew on, tooth are always growing,
and put that in corner. And it is all set up, and then you’re ready to add your guinea pig, and for
