All right my name is Shaun, the silver fox and I’ve been asked on YouTube to go through the sites that I’ve been overtaken in the last ditch kit. Now, those of you who have seen my other videos over in YouTube, well I don’t take a large rock and sat beneath it up right there. So for me, everything that I carry in my Heatpack right here and I can’t see the reason why I couldn’t grab that as a last ditch and take-off with it, there’s two days water in that pack. I have a puncher and a knife, I’ve got my Hobo Stove and I got some food, First Aid kit, -- broth, compass. A frying pan and I got my whole kit there and that weigh with water for about eight to nine kilos.
So a little bit less in that would be seven kilos, so I can’t see the reason it wouldn’t take that. But what I did see on YouTube was a another video and they were asking if you can only take five things, what would you take?
That I got to be really good thinking, now I am going down to different minds, well two different avenues with this. Firstly if we are talking about the UK, I would definitely take a large knife. With a large knife I can obviously secure, again I can build shelters, I can build traps. I can pretty much care for myself, well that is my first priority is my large knife.
Now of those of you who have seen my bush craft video, a nice video –sorry. You see my large knife and that is one of my favorite, I do have a new knife design being made. And if the knife turns out to be as good as – I hope it is in the prototype designs. And that would be my first priority.
My second item will be my wool blanket without a shadow of a doubt. That blanket will keep me warm at night, I can use it as a temporarily means shelter of the rain. Even if it is gets wet, it can still be warm and I can use it as a camouflage if I am out hunting, so I can break my silhouette. So my wool blanket will be my second item.
My third item as we are talking about the UK, would be my crusader cup. The one that fits over the one need to start, I need some way to making water safe to drink, so I can boil water in there. I can also cook raw or edibles or meat in that tin. Now in the UK I can always guarantee any piece of woodland or remote area, I will find plastic bags, plastic bottle, glass bottles, disregarded water barrels. You name it, there will be something out there that I can use to carry water, so in that sense I would not a water bottle. I will just make it with the crusader cup.
So then my fourth item would be my fire still. If it is cold later night, if I am tired or if I would probably to make a friction fire, then I want it to be a reliable way making sparks to ignite tinder. And a fire still in my opinion is the best way of doing that, so a fire still be my fourth choice.
My fifth choice would be in UK will be my Army poncho, we get so much rain here. It is so much damped on the ground and that’s the Army poncho will keep me dry at night. It will keep the dampness of the ground if I’m sleepy as a baby bag. I can use it to trap rain water when it’s rain at night if need be. And I can use as a funnel, where I can funnel game through the neck of the poncho into a trap the pre-made trap. I can use it to trap fish by funneling fish again into a trap. So my poncho will be my fifth item.
Now if I was going further the field, different climate, I would probably sacrifice the poncho for a water bottle. Some way of carrying one to two liters of water and I assume I’m going to be on the move. I may not always get a guarantee of a funnel water source. And to carry water in a crusader isn’t going to be practical so I will dare not a one or two liter water bottle.
Okay those are my five items, my name is Shaun the silver fox and I will catch you in the next video.
