How to Setup Your Twitter
Hey guys, this is Matt from kasocialmedia.com, once again, this is video number three in my first day on Twitter video number one was kind of just what is twitter, what it is all about. Video number two is setting up your account. Now, once you get in your account, up here at the top, you’ll see a little thing that asks you to confirm your account. And actually you already did this but basically you’ll get an email in your email, wherever it is and it will kind of look like this, and then you click on that link. And once you click on that link, it will bring you here.
What I want to go over right now is just kind of the settings tab up here on the right. This is kind of where you’ll see a lot of the stuff and this is where you can go. And it’s great over here on the side as you can see it tells you the great thing about it is twitter like I said trying to make it easy for you. You can read all the stuff over here on this side, it will just tell you a little bit about twitter and it will give you probably a better explanation than what I’m giving you today. But anyway, these are just something.
As you can see, your usernames right there, here’s your email address. Remember, we told that we want others to be able to see our email address so you can change that if you want. We’re here then at Tennessee so we’re going to change that the central time. Geotagging basically you can allow third party applications and takes your tweets or location information—if you’re twitting from different places specially when you get in a mobile stuff now that will become more relevant.
And here’s an interesting one. You can protect your twits. If you want to make your profile private and you don’t want people to be able to see your timeline and what you’re doing or stuff like that you can make it private so that only the people that you give permission to can see your twits some things like that. So basically, I had to send to that. And up there at the top you see it says thank you for sending me settings, I’ve just had to save it because I change the time zone.
On the next tab up here is your password, if you need to update your password, if you want to change it, I recommended doing that every three or four months, it’s always good. Here’s your mobile. And this is just—this will send you notifications and text messages to your phone when people start following you on twitter, many people send you direct messages, people re-tweet you or things like that. I don’t put in my phone over there just because I don’t want to be bothered with that. If I want to check twitter, I can check twitter, it’s not something I need to updated with on all the time and plus I have a twitter application at my iPhone that I’m enable to use. That I’ll—can talk about this later.
Next are the Notices. This is just kind of your notices you can click, unclick this box, email me when someone starts following. I always like that one because then you start to see he’s following you and then maybe you can go follow them. The next thing is whenever you receive a direct message, this is a private message that is sent between twitter people that nobody else can see except for the person you would direct message. And what’s interesting about that is each person has to be following.
So if you want to send a direct message to Steve, Steve has to be following you in order to receive a direct message. And then here’s the inside scoop about twitter, I was like seeing that because that’s always an interesting to me, just want to do updates and things like that are happening. But here’s kind of where we get in the bulk of things. This is your Profile.
The first thing you want to do is you’re going to want to choose a file. So here, you have one picked out it is just KA social media, it’s kind of our logo that I want to use for that picture. Here’s your name, location, you’re going to—I’m just going to put Tennessee. Website, you can put in, if you don’t have one, you don’t have to—kasocialmedia.com was— and then Bio, we’re on online marketing company/blogs specializing in social media. And then you can hit save and so it’s pretty cool from there. It will save it and then it showed at the top that you have put your next picture which it does.
And then the next tab is the coolest one, got only—got have about a minute to talk about it. But this is the design. This is basically customizing away your twitter looks. You can comedown here at the bottom and I wouldn’t recommend it but you can put in your own background image if you want and you could change the design colors so whatever you want. So you can really customize this as much as you want but it’s cool because twitter gives you what is that—about 20 different themes that you can pick between. So you can go through. And you can see whenever you do that, it kind of changes this color over here to brown just by doing that by clicking on this.
So that’s kind of a red and gray behind it and—so you can’t see on the screen now but these are some cool little themes that they’ve come up with already they’re pre-made and I actually like all—there has to be one that I haven’t dislike yet. But I’ll pick this one, on the left hand side like I said you can’t see, it has a little tree. But yes, that’s kind of setting up your twitter. Now, I can do and all that it looks like you’ve been doing twitter for a long time. It looks like you know what you’re doing.
It looks like you have a great understanding of what twitter is, what it is all about. But the next video we’re going to get into a little bit about what are tweets, what are re-tweets, what are direct messages and all that stuff. So once again, my name is Matt at kasocialmedia.com if you have any questions please feel free email me. I’d love to kind of help you with twitter but I hope these videos are helping and look for video number four coming up. Thanks.
