Gary Ruplinger: Hi, I am Gary Ruplinger of BOATIPS.COM and this is a demonstration of how to properly setup a snake habitat. Now this particular habitat is for Brazilian Rainbow Boa. As you can see, she is over here on this side of the aquarium, and the substrate in this aquarium is wood chips, which is good for her to dig in, since this type of snake does like to burrow, and it's important to know what your snake prefers. Some snakes like an Emerald Tree Boa is not going to care about what's at the bottom so much, than it want branches and trees for the climber.
Now how I set this aquarium, once, I set it with a 75 gallon aquarium, and has a glass cover on top here, and that helps to keep the humidity level high. You can look over here, and you might be able to see this kind of some condensation on the side of the tank, and this helps supply the snake with the humidity, as it is very high. I put a water dish, one underneath the heat lamp and that is what makes the humidity goes high, as it does, which right now it's about 80%, and if you are going to put a water dish underneath the heat lamp, make sure you put another water dish on the other side, because snakes don't like to drink hot water.
I have two plants in here, which give her a place to hide, and also help keep the humidity levels high. For heating, there is a heat lamp, and also a full spectrum florescent light here, and as you can see it's just setup like this. There is also a night time bulb in there, might be a little hard to see. I got to set it up on a timer, so that it provides 12 hours of daylight, 12 hours of darkness, which is perfect for this snakes, and she was nearly quieter. Finally I have got a piece of driftwood in the tank, and that is to help her when she is ready to start shedding, she can brush up against it and it helps to get it started better than trying a brush up against it and helps it get it better than trying to brush up against the side of the aquarium. That pretty much covers the basics of setting up your pet snake's habitat. You should checkout our other videos for specific advice about the different kinds of pet snakes, and I am Gary Ruplinger from BOATIPS.COM.
