How to Sew a Dress Part 2: Cutting the Blouse

Hot to Sew a Dress Part II (In less than an hour) Okay. Now, we go back to the smaller piece, remember this is going to be your blouse length. That is means from the front to the back, so this is going to be at the top where you neckline is going to be. You now lay the blouse part material in the table and proceed to shape the neck. Fold the blouse material lengthwise first and crease. I am going to use the iron to go ahead and crease. Then fold it again crosswise and again crease. I will use my iron to crease it. Now you open the crosswise fold and lay the materials still folded lengthwise on the table in the position like this. Measure to the right of the folded crease one inch and place a pin. Measure to the left of the fold four and a half inches and place a pin. Measure down the crosswise fold four and a half from the folded edge and place a pin. Draw some curve lines from the lower pin to the upper pins and that would be your neckline. Cut along this lines for your neckline. Okay. Now, you fold it along that crosswise fold again along the top. Now, you can see your neckline, fold along the length again and see your neckline over here. Check again to make sure your selvage is along the edge because this is what your measured to be your blouse length and you will see your neckline over here. Measure off along the bottom from the length twice folds one quarter of your hip measures plus one and a half inches and place a pin. I am going to measure 11 inches because my hip measurement was 38, quarter of that is 9 and a half plus another one and a half is 11 inches. Measure down from the crosswise folds on the selvage edge one half of your arm whole measure and place a pin. My arm whole measure is 18 and a half so I am placing my pin at 9 and one-quarter inches. Okay let us draw a curve up and over. That is going to be our cut. Cut from pin to pin along the curve.
