How to Sew a Dress (In less than an hour)
This is part 3 in the Make a Dress Series Tutorials Binding the Neckline and Sleeves
Okay. Now, I am going to cut binding for my sleeves. My sleeves are 18 inches, I will do a little bit 18 and a quarter so I will have a little bit extra to fold over the edges. Then we are going to press the binding lengthwise, not exactly in the center letting the edge extend about 116th of an inches, kind a little hard for you to see about, 116th of an inch over the edge.
Okay. Now we are actually going to sew. We got Thread, threaded my machine, part and split, you need tutorials on this? and lay your two channel and on my blog you have got video tutorials on how thread your machine, how thread your bobbin, how to load your bobbin. And now what you are going to do is slip the folded edge of the binding over the edge of the sleeve. That is your selvage. With the widest edge of the binding underneath, be sure the sleeve edge sets into the folded binding as far as it will go.
Now, I am using a contrasting binding here so that you can see very well and I am using white thread to contrast on the same binding. You do not want to use a matching thread but I have enough feedback on my channel that I know you want me to use a contrasting thread to see better.
Okay. There we go now we are going to start sewing. Repeat through the other side, binding a neck edge is similar, measure of a piece of your same tape as long as your neck edge. Press it under with a 16th of an inch difference, one side being slightly larger. The larger side goes underneath, slip the folded binding over the cut edge of the neck and apply as the same as the sleeves. Okay. We are starting to look like a top here.
