Okay, I have prepared with some black thread and a black threaded Barbour, so that you will be able to see the contrast on our project. But, you probably want to use a matching thread with your garment. Okay now, I am going to fold my skirt piece in half just to mark the center and put a little knot here. This is the cut edge, upper edge; remember the bottom edge has the salvage, so that will be your hem. Remember that my blouse was already creased at the center you can also give your center on your blouse piece a notch if you like.
Okay, now I am going to match the center of my skirt piece right side to the right side center of my blouse piece, like so. I like to pin before I saw. The pattern actually encourages you not to pin to get used to immediately sewing together. I am a pinner, so I am pinning the two pieces together right side to right side where I am going to sew the seam. Note that your skirt piece extends further than your blouse piece. Okay, we are ready to sew. The instruction says to 3/8 of an inch seam.
My machine has this wonderful markings, this is 5/8, 3/8. So, I am going to continuously pushing my fabric along that 3/8 inch line, I put my presser foot down, put my needle into the fabric and I am ready to sew.

I always backstitch, when I get to the end of where I am sewing. Have a tutorial on that, go ahead and look at it. Lift your presser foot, removed your garment, trim your threads, done with that seam.
Okay now, you repeat for the other side. Matching centers of the skirt piece, right side to right side, center to center, I like to pin, ready to saw. Three eighths of an inch. Backstitch to make sure you are stitching stays. Here we go.

Backstitch at the end of your seam. Clip the skirt material 3/8 of an inch deep at each corner with the blouse and skirt joined. It is easy to find because that is how deep your seam is.
Turn the edge of the material over that 3/8 of an inch and press or crease. And then, you are going to turn over again 3/8 of an inch. All the way, down out to the corner and then, all the way out, all the way down, to the side to the bottom. That is going to make you imitation binding.
Now, stitch directly along the center of the fold all the way.

To trim the corner put your needle into the fabric lift up your presser foot, turn the fabric 90 degrees. Put your presser foot back down and go.

Do the same for the other side now.
