The basics of shooting. When shooting there are four things you remember to do. First, you are going to have your hips facing the sideline. Second, you are going to extend your arms. Third, you are going to locate the goal with your head. And last, you are going to step pointing your toe at the goal.
First when I shoot, I will make sure that my hips are facing the sideline. If I were to shoot with my hips facing the goal, it gives me less torque on my shot. So by twisting my hips and turning them towards the sideline, I now have maximum torque with my hands.
Next is extending my arms. I want to make sure my arms are fully-extended before I shoot. If I have them in tight or crossed, this limits my accuracy and also my power. So by extending my arms and reaching back towards the back of my head, I now have maximum torque for maximum power. Next I want to make sure; I locate the goal with my eyes by turning my head.
A lot of shooters like to either look away from the goal or some even look down at the ground when they shoot. You want to make sure that you locate the goal with your eyes by turning your chin.
Last you want to make sure you step hard with your opposite foot towards the goal, pointing your toe at the direction of the shot.
Shooting the ball is similar to a pitcher in baseball. If a pitcher were to throw the ball at the plate with his arms in tight and his hips facing the plate, he would not have any power on his shot. So pitcher always make sure that he turns his hips, and on the throw extends his throwing arm while stepping and pulling his toe. You want to have the similar position when you shoot in Lacrosse.
Here are some shots. The basics of shooting.
