Hi, my name is Michelle Johnson the face paint lady and we’re working on our birthday banner. We’re going to begin with designing the banner and determining how it fits into your birthday party plans.
You can use a regular piece of graph paper, today I’m going to use something a little larger because I think it would be helpful for you to get a bigger picture. So, you need to consider how old the child is becoming, if they’re a boy or girl and the other mix of crafts that you have planned for your party. The banner once it’s complete can hang on a wall but when you’re creating the banner you want a nice work space for your guest to decorate.
So you need to think on your piece of paper how long might your banner be and this can be a very casual step if you want to use a ruler, so use a ruler. I’m going to draw upside down for you. Let’s make this a banner that can be used for many different birthday parties. And when we think of birthday parties we think of balloons and we think of gifts. Now that I’m thinking about I bet you, you can see those pencil lines. So let me use a big, black marker that would also be what you could use in your final banner creation.
So we’re going to make some lovely balloons. The whole idea behind the birthday banner and it is this casual and relaxed, it doesn’t have to be a great piece of art or it will be a great piece of art just because you’ve made it with your birthday child and mine. The whole idea of your banner is that you’re creating an art project for your guest to enjoy something for them to do as they’re thinking of the celebration for your birthday child and their friend or the cousin or the neighbor that is the birthday child that day.
So I’ve never done this on my own banners but I just had the most recent fun idea of taking some actual paper from the birthday gifts received and putting them here. Now you’re remembering, you’re looking at something now that’s about a foot and half. Your finished product can be 3 foot, 4 foot, 5 foot because we have a linear roll of white paper that you’re going to switch around.
So let’s say the birthday child’s name is James. I’m writing this upside down, I’m guessing that I’m doing it correctly upside down and backwards. Happy birthday James and the of course you could write Happy birthday.
Now some children have dinosaur birthday themes, princess, pony, frogs, turtles, and all kinds of wonderful animal. I think my way is going to be upside down you have to fix it.
So far, so you think of the decoration, some people go very lavish with their birthday parties or the people have a casual wonderful crepe paper hanging decoration so you begun at the very first step which was to draw your banner design. Now you’re ready to translate that to a larger piece of paper we’ll begin by setting up your work site.
