How to Solo In the Style of Kirk Hammett
White Wizzard
White Wizzard Guitarist Erik Kluiber Shows you a solo in the style of Kirk Hammett
[Demonstration]
Hey it’s Erik and I wanted to show you how to play a solo in the style of Kirk Hammett.
The solo is in the key of A so first finger is here and the 17th fret of 1st string so we put a
minor 1 pentatonic right around it and that’s what the 1st chord she’s based on. We’re
going to be bending up from the 2nd string to the 1st string like with full steps.
[Demonstration]
And then we go to the 3rd string like that so the entire really nice and slow.
[Demonstration]
A little quicker.
[Demonstration]
Then we walk up to the roof and we need to send a sequence starting pull-offs very
similar phrase here two pull offs and ending on the 5th of the scale so a little quicker that
particular one and one more time.
[Demonstration]
Okay then we go down to the low G and we’re going to walk right up in a position into
another minor 1 pentatonic.
[Demonstration]
So the way that we walk up to it is so it starts off with a hammer on from G to A and
that’s a quick shift right there so continuing that particular run.
[Demonstration]
At the ending there we just add it on the 9th of the scale and it just wraps up you know the
tail under that taking the run.
[Demonstration]
So the whole role one more time.
[Demonstration]
Real faster.
[Demonstration]
Okay and to complete our solo we’re going to do is another hammer-on pull off we’re
going to use the E string as a pedal so do a hammer-on, pull-off and then just move down
up on the E string so a little quicker that particular run over and over would be.
[Demonstration]
And then we’re going to walk it up in that ending on E to sort of walk up half steps here.
[Demonstration]
So a little faster.
[Demonstration]
At full tempo…
[Demonstration]
One other thing that you can do to the techniques you learned in the solo is you can make
an exercise combining the descending sequence and the ascending sequence so we start
off with the descent.
[Demonstration]
This end there on the third part of the 5th string and then ascend starting on G just like we
did in the solo. To begin…
[Demonstration]
Alright have fun with that.
