So today, I want to teach the layer by layer method for just the beginners out there kind of like me. I am somewhat a beginner. I am moving on to the Fridrich Method now. It is hard for me to say that. I do not know why but yes, I am just going to go ahead and pass on what I was doing when I was first running the cube. So right now, I am just scrambling it.
[Demo]
The first step that I do is find/make the cross. And what I did to find the cross is just look for these little edge pieces. I have the white piece on this. That is something I forgot to mention. A color that you will start out with that helps you memorize color patterns and stuff like that that you look out for when solving a cube, mine is I always start out with my white face even if I am doing a Fridrich Method or any other method. You can tell that two of the crosses are right here so you just bring those over. And next, there you go. So this green is out in the wrong spot and let me move them over. Okay, anyway, you will get better at the cross. I still suck at the cross. It makes me slow in both methods but you just find out how to make the cross really fast with its corresponding method without having to rearrange them.
So the next thing that I do is I find the corner pieces. So I see there is one right here, if its on the right side, make the left side your front base and do RIDIR and that will give you this, RIDIR, that will give you that little face. This is the white face, it is on the right side so let do that again. So if this is on the white, your top color is on the right, it does not matter about these ones – if it is on the right, then you do RIDIR and then we will get to that corner. If it is the left side, just do the opposite of that which is LDLI but I will go into that if we find that on the cube. So next is I find the next one which is right under me which is the orange and the green which is right over here. Go ahead and put that under where it needs to go. And since it is on the bottom, we will go ahead and do that, other than what I just said, we will have to do the down twice. So you do L, you make the right side your front face if it is on the bottom. So L, D, which is usually you will make it LI to fix it. But since it is over here, then you do D again so LDDLIDI and then you just do it like normal. If it is on the left, this is what I am talking about, LDLI and then that will give you that first little top there. When you get lucky, I guess this cuts out too.
So the next one I see is this red and blue. When I turn my cube, I hold the edge that it needs to go to so this is the way – I bought it by the time, I am looking, I put this in my front face positions or whatever that I already have my bottom ones in position to where it needs to go. So since it is on the right side, it would be RIDIR. So next one that I see is luckily right under where it needs to go and then just do that algorithm again, LDDLIDILDLI and then you got your top all done with these corresponding centers. So next is I just took my cube over and then I find the edge pieces which is right here and here. And since this is the one that I solved first, let me go ahead and move that to where it needs to be. If you see this edge piece no matter which color it is, just go ahead and move it to the color that it corresponds to because this one would be right here to the red. But if I solved this one first, this would be on the left side because there are two different algorithms. If you can correspond it, the red and the blue, there is one algorithm for that. But if you got the red and the green, it corresponds to the right. So we will do the right one first.
So if it is on the right side, you make your left face your front face. If it is on the left side, then make your right face your front face. So this one is your right side, the algorithm for that is UIFIUFURUIRI, this is just algorithms that you have done after you got his four already in place. The Fridrich Method does both of this at the same time while it is scrambled in the cube but we put this ones in first. So if you got it on the left side corresponding, this is what I mean by left side. You got your red, blue, and then left and right, left and right, red, blue. So if it corresponds in the left line, this is the algorithm for it. It is U, R, U’, R’, U’, F’, U, F. Then you find one that kind of matches the orange and the blue, after that, this are not still scrambled but there is an algorithm for that which would be R, U, R’, U, R, U2, R’.
And then I am going to go ahead – and usually you end up with this little reversed L on top. Do not worry about this piece. This is a layer by layer method. The algorithm to get the line or the cross is F, R, U, R’, U’, F’. That will give you the line. Go ahead and do it again, F, R, U, R’, U’, F’ and that will give you the cross.
