How to Speak Chinese

Hello and welcome to Chinese Learn Chinese lessons. Today I would like to teach you a sentence that is called, “Do you like your job?”. “Do you like your job?” in Chinese is “ni xi huan ni de gong zuo ma?” Again this has been request on YouTube, so I recommend everybody to send me a request on YouTube or if you are in Twitter send me a request on Twitter as well of the words you want to describe in Chinese and I can translate that into such kind of lessons so you can learn and master what you want to say in Chinese. Let’s have a look how do you understand each of the Chinese character—the pronunciation, the tones and meaning. Okay, so let’s take a look at this sentence, “ni xi huan ni de gong zuo ma?” So the first character “ni” means you and second to third character “xi huan” is a single word that means like. “Ni de” – the fourth and fifth character means your or yours. “Gong zuo” the sixth and the seventh character means job or work, so Gong zuo is a single word. “Ma” the last character is there to represent a question. So if you don’t have the “ma” but exactly the same order for the sentence it is a statement. You place the “ma” at the back in order to represent a question. Let’s have a look at each individual character. The first character “ni” means you, so you can see there is a left and right structure. The way of writing this character is from left to right and for the right part you right from upper component to the lower component in order to put the components together and put the character together. The second character “xi” means happy. So this is one of those “oh my God how do I write this character?” So you compose the whole character into four parts. So each part is individual component. You can see two squares in the middle and in the bottom that is called a mouse component and the other components are pretty simple. The way of writing this character is from top to bottom. So you write the first component and then the square which is the mouse component and then the third component which is two dots and one line. And another mouse component down at the bottom. So you put that together so it is “xi” So let’s take a look at the third character “huan”, so huan means pleased. You can see that “xi huan” xi means happy and huan means pleased. So if you are happy and pleased you’ll like this. So xi huan altogether means like. So again, see that huan is a left and right structure. Each structure has got a different component, so as long as you can put the components together in order to look like this character you are successful in writing this character. The next character is just “ni’, which we have introduced so we jump to the next character “de”. So “de” doesn’t really have a meaning for itself. But it is an adjective there to cooperate with other words in this case “ni de” means yours. So you can see that de is a left and right structure. Each part is a separate component. As long as you can put the parts together and it looks like de you are fine in writing this character. So let’s have a look at the next character “gong”. So there is nothing to talk about the writing because it has got three lines. The next character “zuo” is again a left and right structure. Each structure has separate component, so as long as you can write this component successively you can put the character together. So we came to the last character “ma”. The “ma” doesn’t have a separate meaning. It is there to represent a question. “Ma” is a left and right structure character. Each one has individual component. You can recognize the left one is again, the square which means the mouse component which is very common. So all together for the whole sentence is “ni xi huan ni de gong zuo ma?” That’s fantastic! I believe now you have already mastered the reading, the writing, pronunciations and the one tone of this sentence. “ni xi huan ni de gong zuo ma?” so that’s the lesson for you today.
