Hi there it’s Joshua Fineburg from startacomputerbusiness.com. And I’m here to talk with you today about how you can start a computer business by finding great clients right from day one. These are three tips to help you learn which type of clients to focus on when you start a computer business, because even if you’re just starting out and your technical skills may not be strong. May be you’re just really good at desk top support stuff and you want to partner up or get some contractors to help with networking really the things. The lans and lans and things like that.
You still need to make sure that you get paying clients, many professionals worried that they’re not technically proficient enough to start their own business. But the reality is you can start a computer business with a very basic level of technical knowledge. The key to starting up is to make sure that your computer business gets some paying clients that are in your current technical skills comfort level. That way you can and it will allow you to work your way up as your technical skills, your ability to work with larger small business clients improves. These are three tips to help you learn which type of clients to pursue 1st.
First to think about starting small in the beginning if you have weak technical skills and for example if your desktop skills are really strong and your desktop supports skills and your go get notebooks and things like that but you’re a little weaker on network operating systems and you’re going to be later on partnering and working with others that help supplement your technical skills. And you may want to start working with just home offices and small standalone businesses that have simple really small peer to peer networks.
This will give you some paying clients right away. And even more importantly I’ll give you some reference accounts which are important, so you can work on continuing to grow and improve your technical skills simultaneously at the same time what that is successful. Computer businesses are not be able to continue working with these small clients sizes long terms. For the most part because that becomes a very low-margin business that requires a tremendous amount volume. However in the end term these beginning accounts can be really, really useful as a great place to get your feet wet, as a great place to get some crucial preference accounts. So consider starting small, especially if your technical skills or a little bit weak.
Second, use small clients in one-shot deals as stepping stones. While small accounts, small clients, small costumers can be a great way to starting a computer business. You need to make sure that you move beyond eventually and in the timing is all a judgment call. As you should be moving ask them three to six months after you get started six to 12 months after you get started that’s going to be something you’re going to evaluate on your own. But you, in order to have a successful computer business and if especially if you want to move in the higher margin, higher value, and consulting practices based on revenue. And getting more involved in providing the sustenance which I teach solution, you won’t need to eventually grow beyond just working with tiny clients in one shot deal costumers. And in the beginning there’s definitely no reason why you shouldn’t take smaller clients and some one shot deal costumers to get some great references and to get your feet wet, but you have to recognize that you’re moving towards sophisticated profitable long term client accounts.
Third step is never stop learning and I know so many people here that says there’s a cliché. And so many people here and some of the different context but that’s really important if you feel like you’re lacking technical training is holding you back from catering to the needs of larger small businesses. Small business that have 10, 20 ,40 ,50 workstations that need more sophisticated IT solutions. Put aside some time each week to work on that training even two or three or four hours a week. And make a real difference, even if you don’t have a large budget for training go to tutorials and the resource kits install your no for resells softwares, set up a small testing lab kin your office or home office. Then break the installation and troubleshoot the set-up process and re-install the applications again and again until you get really comfortable with the set-up in trouble shooting. What you learn during this process can help you respond for long terms needs of your great clients. And the reality is that for platforms that you’re going to be supporting out there in the field. Now we that we have a testing configuration that you can use for learning purposes and RND. But most people in your situation odds will use these application in a production environment for their own business so that they’re comfortable running their own business on the platform that the clients are running on.
