How to Start a Fire with Damp Wood
Hi, this is Sean of Silver Fox and this is another video response to a question I was asked and that was how to light a fire in damp weather or with damp sticks. So what I’ve done in preparation to this, I’ve called on a local area where I am and the lack of woods and I’ve go it up and match stick size sticks. About the size from your finger tip to your elbow that’s all length. I’ve got the 2B pan with those and I made a couple of little fire sticks and I’ve gathered some bark of a clamatis that’s growing up around some of the trees around here. The clamatis bark — so what I’ll do in here is I’m just preparing the clamatis, just breaking up to five and gets the knives and separate it and it’s also what I have to do is helps to dry it out attach as well.
So this is a nice little nest. So we’re going to drop your cloth to char cloth put it inside the nest and this will — we’ve got a rough of sticks on the ground this will going to keep the damn coming out from the ground. We bought a big can full of sticks, match sticks, size sticks. We’ve got our clamatis bark nest and our char cloth sitting on the top.
Everything that is pre prepared then you can still prepared on the char cloth and the rest of it. I’ve also gathered all those sticks from the floor and the bark a stretch of the clamatis. None of it is involved out or dry. So we’re just going to put a stick. This bark into the char cloth going, okay we’ve got fire. So we’re going to place this. It is rough then we place our sticks over the top. Now let’s be patient now because we need to dry the moisture of this twigs. So I’m just holding the way off the on fire just giving a chance to get yourself that in but don’t give it time to get going and if you can hear it but on this particular street day you can see the moisture coming out the wood and this little one down here. So you need to keep time for the moisture to be drawing up of the wood.
And what you’re looking or waiting for is if I to get strong heart you need a good set by that good set of bit of embers, which a way but the rough down keep the moisture of the ground what it caused get hot underneath and it should and start feeding itself. And the trackers, trick to making this is a good tin to bundle, plenty of match stick length sticks as I said you know finger tip to elbow in length they need to be long. Put them on there and leave it alone give it time. It’s pretty much good and it’s self going now. Once you get it going you can install increase in the soil sticks till it so and size now. Start increasing your sticks sizes, start putting them on. Let them dry out. Okay well thank you. I’m sure on the Silver Fox and that is how to start a fire with damp sticks.
