Well, if you’re in business when you’re on the road you need to be connected. We can do that in many ways. I’ve got a smart phone I can access my e-mail, even check the web but sometimes I want to able to do it from my laptop. Maybe I want to work on a stretchy, be able to send attachments, have that full web browsing experience. Well, there’s a number of different ways to stay connected. One of the big ones hot spots, obviously a lot of homes and offices have the wireless hot spots.
When you’re out on the road, you can access them in a lot of coffee shops, airports, hotels but in those cases typically you have to pay. And on top of that if you’re travelling around you’ve probably got a number of different accounts going at the same time. So number one, you have all these different payments that you’re making on a monthly basis. Number two, you have to remember all of these log-in names and also passwords. But, we’re going to have a look at a few solutions from Telus that make that a little bit easier.
Using my smart phone and there’s a number of different phones and smart phones that work with tethering on the Telus network. I can actually hook this up to my laptop and use this as a high speed modem and it’s pretty simple. You basically plug it in with a USB connection. And once you’ve installed some of the basic software and a dial up networking, I can simply go in, click on the dial up networking icon here and within a few seconds, I’ve got my direct connection to the internet and this is nice. It’s a high speed connection that’s running on Telus’ EV-DO high speed network, RevA network and it allows me to use my full web browser, my internet e-mail access at high speed like I would be getting in my office or my home for example. If you want to take it to another step, if you want to have that experience but with a connect card, Telus has a number of different ones. My favorite ones are the USB ones because they’re so simple to set up and I’ll show you how that works.
I simply plugged it in to the side and what’s nice about this one is that it has all the software, all the installation software you need right on the actual card itself. So, once you plugged it in, it pops up a window and asks you if you want to install the software and you’re off to the races. Once you’ve done that, all you have to do is click on the little icon here and basically connect and I have my full internet access as well. Something else I like about this particular connect card is that it also has a micro SD slot, so you might be familiar with USB flash drives, well you can actually have that same type of functionality with the connect card. Not only can you access high speed internet no matter where you are but you can also have extra memory built in to this so you can transfer around documents, videos, music, pictures whatever you want while you’re on the go.
So two solutions from Telus, tethering works with the many of the different smart phones and phones you’ll want to check that out on the website and the connect cards, keeps you connected for your business no matter where you are.
