Hi, my name is Joan Lee and I am here to today to tell you a little bit on how to stay active and keep fit when you are over 50.
When you are 50 and older, you are not the same as when you are 30. Your metabolism is a lot slower. Bones start to feel a little bit cricky. So, it is really important to try and maintain our certain level of cardiovascular fitness as well as to keep moving so that your joints are well oiled, then you know you feel like your stock in the same position.
With time and gravity, you will find that a lot of people who do not exercise tend to have a really Kyphotic or a hump to back. So, it is really important to try and develop a certain exercises for yourself that can try to help you stand up straight and keep you in a better postural position.
So in terms of cardiovascular fitness, you want to try and find something that is not so hard on the joints, I would recommend riding the bike, working on the elliptical machine, just so that if you find running on the treadmill, a little impact full on your knees, this is something that can totally erase your heart rate up and be impact for you on the joints.
Other ways in terms of getting a nice over all body fitness is to do things like Pilates and Yoga which are very low impact of the body. These are great ways to try and correct any kind of imbalances you have in the body and to just get a feeling of total over all body fitness.
Using free weight is also a great way to try and develop strength. You do not have to use a ton of weight. Light weights with lots of reputation are also a great way to keep your muscles active and to keep you from a pain-free body.
Our great way to keep your joints flowing and moving and also to get a certain level of cardio fitness is to just go out walking. Walk across with one of the many bridges in New York. Or maybe go out dancing and take a dance class. I hear Tango is a really great one.
