Christine Rodriguez: Hi! I'm Christine on WatchMojo.com. We're at Studio Breathe. We're going to be talking to Alain Bonnamie about kick-boxing as a fitness program. So wish me luck. You were a professional boxer, a karate expert, you were ranked number four as a kick boxer. That's intimidating for the average person like myself who is going to train with you. How do you deal with that?
Alain Bonnamie: I make people being confident, being relaxed and I tell them and I say, I am going to teach you how to punch and kick but maybe you are going to help me on something else and we all need each other. I can't do my tax paperwork myself. I'm really good to kick somebody's butt but I can't do my tax paperwork.
Christine Rodriguez: Can you tell us about the history of kick-boxing? When did it start? How did it evolve?
Alain Bonnamie: It's really a mix of the martial and the boxing. It's just to have a complete battle with kick and punch.
Christine Rodriguez: When is life as a professional kick-boxer?
Alain Bonnamie: You have to be selfish, you have to think about yourself, just try to be more focused and mean, and you have to be 100% in it to be successful. You really have to raise your limit higher than you are.
Christine Rodriguez: How did you make the transition from professional kick-boxing to developing programs for fitness?
Alain Bonnamie: That's really my motivation. I love it, it's a passion for me to be healthy and to drive other people to be healthy. And what I like about my kind of training is, you do with nothing. Some moves can be really, really, really useful to defend yourself.
