Hi, I am Judith Gerber and I am a New York career counselor. I am really looking forward to share my thoughts and expertise. Someone just describe me as combining New York street marks with creative vision and that is what I like to bring to you today.
People always want to know how they stay motivated. We work so hard to get somewhere, to get started to continue of how to stay motivated. One of the things is to continue even if it is small steps to find your passion and pursue it and within that just stay flexible because a lot of times you passion can be expressed in many different ways. So, for example I work with an actress and we identify what it is that she can take charge of because I like many of you. Sometimes you have a day job where you can take charge of things.
So we look for something she can take charge of and we found a project that was fascinating for her which has to do with her mothers escape from Cuba. She got very interested, she got passion about the role of women who worked from Cuba and how their lives went and lives of their daughters. To create this whole project and we were able to connect it to experience documentary film maker and the two of them run forward and created this project that even if it was not her main day job. It was a project that got juices going and created an opportunity for her to meet a lot of people.
There is a lot of way of expressing your passion and your interest. So, part of the work that I do as a career counselor is to help you find that passion and figure out how to continue being connected with it. Also, of course when I work with people I tell them we are going into training and in order to have they energy to pursue all of the things, all of the entries. We have to do the basic things, we are glad to find them exercise for them that works for you. You have to find a way of eating that gives you that energy to pursue your life’s dreams.
The third thing, if you are a person who needs a self expression, find a way of expressing that self. Take a ride in class. Create a structure support, move, dance, and dance by yourself, whatever it is so that you create the energy to continue moving forward. Meditation, quite down, that way you have the energy to pursue what you think you want to pursue. Sometimes the universe gives you signals that you are moving in the right direction, you are moving forward. It is really exciting and other times you kept hitting road blocks.
Those road blocks are signs that you either need to do some inner work or you need some outer work. Inner work is when you find out if the block is coming from yourself, from some idea you have from old neurological pathway that is when you are not worthy, you work on that. The other way is to see what is actually going on, if you want to go in financial services and you are thinking that you want a mortgage worker, this might not exactly be the best time to do that. If you want to be an actress, you want talking to other people, be coming involved in that community.
So there are lots of ways of pursuing your interest. I like to combine a very practical immediate plan with very visionary long term plan. Then we figured out how to get some immediate steps that you can do now that can move you towards that goal. So, find the way to stay motivated is to find things that really interest you, to find people that really interest you and to find very sculptures or during your workday as well as your free time.
