How to Stop String Noise on Guitar
Welcome back to the channel. I’m Neal you host for guitartricks.com. We got a free lesson for you this week and the tip of the week is coming your way right now.
Check it out the tip of the week is using the F# on your D chord. Let’s say you are playing an open positioned D. That is heavy as those other cool power chords on the guitar neck but you can make it heavier by adding the F#. Put that in there. Got a nice chunky D chord, that goes with the G. You like to hang out together. Tiperific!
On our lesson, stopping extraneous, big word, string noise on your guitar especially if you are just learning or you’re trying to get your leads done and there’s all these other stuff going around that you did not want to happen. I’ll show you what I use to help mute the other strings while I’m playing.
For basic bar chord like the A, I let the thumb kind of hang out over the E string. Also from doing a power chord on the A string like a D and that gives you the flexibility to drive at the right hand while you move around with the left hand. So it keeps that energy of the right hand going with that I am not going to think too much on the left.
Now if I was doing a more fuller bar chord on the fist string like D major, I would let the tip of my index finger rest against the E string to stop that from ringing like this. If I was playing that D open chord without any bass note, I would let the thumb drift over to the A and the E string. Now, if I want to mute and I’m doing some lead, let’s say I’m going to appear on the 12th fret doing some funky kind of lead thing. I would use a fleshy part of my finger to mute the top strings and then the thumb on the low E and I want to use my middle finger they do kind of rest on the A string in between rhythms.
Now, if you are doing just lead, some single notes leads, see up here in the upper register to keep them from ringing out if you really just want to know to play when you are soloing. You are focusing most of your finger work on holding those notes, getting good bands in, I’ll do a lot of the muting, palm muting. Right here at the bridge and I’ll kind of mute the lower strings as I’m picking the higher ones. And as I move down the scale I kind of move my hand down the beard string.
It’s your lesson for the week. Your freebie discovers a large portion of the string ringing promise you’ll have up and down the next so hopefully this helps you out. And help you play just notes that you want to play and not send out anymore information than you want to and you’ll sound a lot more professional to having a nice clean picking sound.
So thanks for tuning in. Leave me requests, the guitartricks.com forums. We’re also on Youtube, Twitter, My Space and faceboogalet yeah. {Foreign Language}. We’ll be back in seven days. Picky pick your guitar. Try out some new whoa! See you later.
