Amy E: We're on our way to another salon. We're going to go interview Mogi.
ScissorBoy: Mogi San.
Amy E: Are you expecting some combs in the next few days?
ScisorBoy: We're expecting some ScissorBoy combs in few days and some ScissorBoy clips.
Amy E: ScissorBoy, I'm Amy E on the road snip, snip.
Amy E : Konichiwa.
Mogi: Hi! Konichiwa.
Amy E: This is Mogi.
Mogi: Hi! How are you?
Amy E: So good to have you on the show. He is a hair master. He has won many awards.
Mogi: That's why I've no hair.
Amy E: He is the master of loosing hair and doing hair.
Mogi: Right. So what would you like to do? You have a nice long hair there. Would you like to cut it shorter?
Heather Rae: No, I would like to keep it long.
Mogi: Keep it longer. How about any layer?
Heather Rae: Yeah, layers.
Mogi: Bang? Would you like to do there a Japanese bang?
Heather Rae: No. I just think --
Mogi: Softer? I'm going to cut that lower hair, cut them off. You see the lower hair come off but it still remains same and it looks nicer.
Amy E: So you're going to see a lot of hair falling off of it, but it will still look the same and it will just look nicer.
Mogi: Yeah! That's it. That's what we are going to do today. Amy, this is my DVD, the hair cutting DVD. So this is -- the one is a Japanese DVD.
Amy E: To be a Master volume 1, How to Practice to be a Master Hair Stylist and in here we have major directions.
Mogi: English. When I'm cutting here very important is where the foot position is, where to stand and how to cut hair. So many people don't realize it and they just move around. So we've decided, I've decided, this is the corner 12 degree back, 45 degree behind like a right side, and the left side. Then this is the 90 degree for the side way, both side and front 45 from. So we'll be testing the left foot and right foot.
Amy E: Dancing! Are we going to dance? Like --
Mogi: Yeah, now, yes, right. That's good.
Amy E: So, are we going to do her fringe first and where do we stand when we start?
Mogi: Stand to the 45 degree like this. This is called the 10 o'clock position, see like it's a 12 and 10. That's why we stand here to first check the haircut, how much would we be cutting off the hair.
Amy E: We would just do small enough.
Mogi: Yeah, small, very smaller because the frontline. If you made a mistake on this one, your hair cut is all screwed up.
Amy E: And you have to make sure that it can travel because if wind is blowing, it has to look good no matter what the weather conditions are right.
Mogi: Just like your bang like this. So you don't want to cut too short, a bit longer. Then I bring everything toward this line. Now, you don't want to cut short then we have to move forward here and then simultaneously move this way.
Amy E: Why do you stand to the side?
Mogi: Because I don't want to cut any hair off. So that's why if you're standing cutting here, you keep cutting off too short. So I'm going to be cutting here first to make it, and then come up here, we automatically move this way. Then I come here, throw the bang on first. I am going to bring in here more further more, so you can't see.
Amy E: So you cut the hair over there so that it won't get cut too short, and we're matching what wind conditions are. So if the wind is blowing that way, the hair will look just the right length.
Mogi: Yeah! So that bring the whole thing off that much cutting. Then you bring down here automatically we are going to do. First, we're going to stand here, and then take first little bit. I'm going start cutting hair now. So make sure I hold it here, this side, then moving this one, cutting off that much. Then just hold this hair don't reduce it. Many people take them off. Don't take them off then bring next section, then here, then bring it here. Then we move more farther more. Yeah, that's right. Don't let it go.
Amy E: Don't let it go.
Mogi: Yes, so you have got to hold her hair then bring back here. So each time you do, pulling back, so you don't have cutting off anymore. So come pulling in here so you can cut anything off here, that's it. That's all the cutting this side like that. Then I bring down here, see it automatically -- like this come to longer to shorter. So, I did bring down this moment, this is the kind of guideline just leave it there. Then we're going to cut here front here. Now, we're going to take this one out to match this line. So we're going to be coming forward, more forward. I've started cutting this side, sorry. I've cut that side because it's a long hair. So we're going to cut hair, many people standing this place cutting hair but at that you're cutting it too short. So, I would do opposite side for cutting hair.
Amy E: So cut the side.
Mogi: The first on to very small section again. You checked the haircut or whatever we did before this one. We cut them off here, right. Then a small section again.
Amy E: Don't let go off the guide.
Mogi: No, that's correct.
Amy E: Don't let me hit your hand.
Mogi: Then just keep cutting. So you just -- can you see this one? This spot the one that I'm cutting here. Alright, so it's nothing else but cutting. So I just bring in everything here at the top of the hair to bring it down here to cut. So this hair, they make sense don't worry about them. Cutting here, now we've done here, see just this much only, cutting hair to here. Alright now, next one section see this is the guideline that she has that's what we're going to rely.
Amy E: How do people usually do this and guide this different.
Mogi: Usually while cutting hair, if I do this I'm cutting hair.
Amy E: So what's different here is the foot positioning. You're early on this side bringing it over which prevents cutting off too much hair. I do get to see where it will go.
Mogi: See that's the way.
Amy E: Do a big snip, snip. You're using back wise. They taught you in Japan?
Akira: Japan this I don't know.
Mogi: So just bring in here the whole thing, the back of this, top of the hair, bringing it here and here this one. Now the corner here. So this is the longest one she has just bring in here. This side is much longer this corner here. We go to we're bring them in. So at the same time we're taking off the top of the hair together. You can see there is so much hair there. So you just cut them off, you don't need this hair. She needs it but I don't it.
Amy E: You are really in his hands now Heather.
Mogi: When I lifted here a little bit then it automatically there is a short on the head right. Then I'm going to -- because of before we did go down, we go up like this. You don't cut anything at the bottom just cutting this section, sort our out a little bit. This one, we do that, just go up then stay here. Now, again I have got to bring it here, push hair up. That spot I bring in here, then sideways I do like this. Just taking the inside out I'm going to make a layer.
Amy E: That's different.
Mogi: Yeah. But we don't want to cut off any layer here in the front. Front I leave it there.
Amy E: So you're just doing the section.
Mogi: Yeah section only. Then going up, we cut like this that, cutting in the layer here more. Bring back here, because she has a lot of hair there. So hold on to it just keep cutting. Just once you have decided just hold on until the hair is out gone. You don't want to cut hair, then bring down here, then it could be protected more. But if you want to cut shorter then go up. If you don't just bring down kind of whole thing and bring back here, cutting back there. So you can see this hair, I take out this much, but didn't cut anything. I stopped right on here, we're just thinking about it, automatically done. If you'll hold this one here, push back on a blow dryer, so the hair become at front become very fringe, very thin. So you don't need do the razor or anything. So that's what we do. Now, we're going to cut from here to the top of the hairs. If you do this, you could see more on this side, yeah, come here see.
Amy E: Oh! Yeah that's a nice line.
Mogi: Now, we're going to blend in here to the front of the hair. So we're going to take this one out again push back to this one connected and here again just little by little. Everything coming out here like this. Take the whole thing off. I think, -- see. I want to bring it in here and now you see it. So you can see the front. In the front we've got tapering here.
