Amy E.: Our hair stylist for today and his assistant Mateo he’s also not just an assistant but an apprentice. And Franc and Mateo are going to show us a shampoo technique.
Franc: With Mike here we are going to get him ready for a cut and Mateo’s going to go through a process of massage that he does and it just kind of relaxes the client, really soothes them gets them ready for the cut. Like I’m saying, our big thing here at the salon is customer service. The minute you walk in to the door you get sat on a chair at the shampoo bowl, Mateo goes through a process of shampooing techniques that really gets ready for the cut. And it’s just an experience, we are creating an experience and then the finish touch will be at the chair.
Amy E.: What is the first thing you do?
Mateo: The first you do is with the hair and I like to break it down into three sections as I’m shampooing. I start up with the sides, I work up towards the top and then we will work at the back section. And basically what I like to do is I like to work in all circular motions. The reason I do this is to just massage the scalp.
Amy E: And your client has eyes rolling back into his head here, so relaxed.
Mateo: It’s important to apply enough pressure to where it’s a nice massage and you are being efficient with your shampoos but not applying too much pressure to where you’re hurting them.
Franc: We’ve lost him he is totally relaxed.
Amy E.: He is like, I will shave my head whatever you say. What are we going to do with his hair?
Franc: Today what we are going to do is basically doing a really layered faux hawk. With it being textured correctly, it actually lays flat where we need it to. It actually creates a really nice texture and it allows in it to easily style his own hair. We are going to take this side pretty short and we want to blend this in but I’m going to create texture starting from this mid section and then up take a tip a little bit of this length at of the top. It’s been about 5weeks since we have last seen him.
Amy E.: Alright, are we ready? Let’s get started.
Franc: I’m just going to create my guide here then once again I’m going—come over here so you can see. Basically where the head curves is where my guide is going to be. I’m taking this, what I want to do is you could see where the weight starts to happen in this section. I want to remove all of these here, and just take this down and then work my way up blending this section to the top with my razor.
I just want to point cut it in here I’m going in to where the hair starts to curve or doing more weight. Now what I’m doing is I’m just going to texture it with my scissors point cutting in and I’m kind of following what his faux hawk is going to be anyway it’s going to start to blend, it just going to blend in this lower section here because it blend in the first section that I just cut. And it just kind of starting to gradually bring myself out to the top.
Amy E.: Franc has doing the sides now and he is going to start faux hawk.
Franc: What I want to do here is basically just roll with a comb both of my sides. What I want to start doing is created my guide and I’m going to use my razor and with my razor I’m creating my guide here. I’m taking out the unwanted length with my razor. Using the guide that I left here because here I want to lay flat, let’s lay flat before you once you go forward but that’s fine because now it’s just creating the beginning of the faux hawk, the flow the faux.
