Female: We do see emergencies all day long. This is my favorite lines of all times. Our lives are determined by the things we never planned. So you never know obviously when you are going to have an emergency. Usually with people, we call first. So we can sort to direct them to what we think they should do. And that is very helpful. So what do you need to have to go to the animal hospital? If something happens. You need to bring your identification. You need to have a good idea of your pet’s history. It is really important to know what kind of medications your pet is on or to know there vaccine history very, very important. Lots of things, and those our dates, some things are difficult to remember.
One of the greatest things that pet side has for pet owners, which I think is so innovative and smart is exactly what we are talking about. It is a place where people can log on and when they register their pets they can put all that information in there. So that no matter where you are any where in the world you have your pet’s information at any time, that is invaluable. What happens when you find a pet on the road or it is your own pet? It is like the best on earth. When they are in pain they do not react normally and so should you pick them up. You just need to be very, very careful. Sometimes by wrapping the pet on a blanket or thinking ahead of time and not just knee jerking and picking up the wounded animal. You have to really think about it and think about protecting yourself, especially if it is not your own pet and you do not know the vaccine history and you do not know what is going on. There are actually pet ambulances. Not very many and this is not a pet taxi. This is actually, at least on long island may have one wonderful service it is called Ambuvet. If it needs help in a hurry then that pet ambulance will come and help you and they could even transport you from your family veterinarian’s office to a specialty hospital for overnight care for whatever or pick the pet up at your home and bring the pet for an emergency clinic for you.
Male: We have oxygen on board and we have a licensed veterinary technician. What we do is we take preliminary vital sings, heart rate, respiration rate, capillary refill time, all the information that is necessary in order for us to go ahead and transfer the animal to a specialty facility or give them a call and let them know what is coming in so that they are ready for the emergency and again the availability is to keep this always available.
Female: What is an emergency that one person is not always an emergency to another, which is like it is always good to call. But most people who call, I will say to them if you are worried enough to call you should seek attention because what is the worst thing that could happen. They treat out feeling at home or you get a blood test and you feel better and you sleep better than that. Because the worse thing that I ever had to say is “I wish I have that”
