Dan Kutler: Hi! How you are going there? My name is Dan Kutler and I am here to teach you basically how to swim all the four basic strokes. We are here at the beautiful YMCA Presidio Pool in San Francisco. Basically, what I am going to try to teach is how to swim freestyle and we are going to learn breaststroke. We are going to learn Backstroke. Then we are going to learn, what everyone knows as the most difficult stroke, Butterfly.
So what I am going to try to do is give you some real simple drills that you can do to learn the basic strokes. We are going to cover, what you do with your arms, what you do with your legs, how to breath, pull it all together and then do the stroke.
Alright. Before we get start on, I want to say you a little bit about myself. I have done swimming my whole life. And I earned a Full-Ride Scholarship to UCLA, swan there from 1988-92. After that in 1992, I went over Europe and I competed internationally for three years, and the highlight of my career was in 1996 in the Olympics, when I swam under relay that qualified for finals. I swam the butterfly leg, the 4x100 medley relay in 1996 in Atlanta.
Alright. So before we get started, lets talk a little bit about a some of the things you are going to want to consider when you will get to a pool and some of the equipment which you are going to need by you are at pool, swimming. Obviously you know water could be really fun thing to be around but it cause to be little bit dangerous. So I want you to make sure that you are comfortable being in the water that you at least know how to float, that you at least know how to just to sort of move from one side of the pool to the other before you begin engaging in the four strokes.
As far as the equipment, obviously we all want to have a swim suite on, and the other thing to consider is whether or not you want to wear cap. Guys, it's up to you, I choose not be, but I know lot of guys do. Women, I think you probably going to want to have a cap unless you have really, really short hair in which case, it wouldn't make it -- wouldn't getting in your eyes, but women with long hair are going to want to have a cap because it's going to keep the hair out of your eyes while you are swimming and trying to breathe.
Other than that, the obvious thing which you are going to want is goggles, alright. So I am going to put mine on, put yours on and let's learn how to swim. Alright, here we go.
