How to Take Apart a Magnetron from a Microwave
Hello, everyone, crazy fish farmer here. I have some emails out there about the microwaves that I've been collecting and what exactly am I collecting them for and ultimately is the magnets. They are inside the magnetrons. One of my builds that I'm going to be doing here in the near future but I've got to collect some more magnets or buy some more magnets and why not collect them from something that’s being thrown out in the house. So that’s kind of my goal is just to collect all these magnets from microwaves that are being thrown out or going to the junkyard.
Ultimately what I'm after is the magnets. They are inside the magnetron. I don’t know exactly what kind of magnets they are but I know they’re pretty strong and they work really good for a stator. And that’s kind of my goal is to build a homemade stator either for a windmill or for water wheel. Basically just I just wanted to do it. So what I'm going to in this video is actually try to take this apart and it’s not the easiest thing in the world. You’re going to try to bend some metal and try things apart to get to him. So let’s go ahead and get started.
Now ultimately I'm trying to get to these three magnets right there and there some little clip on the side. It looks like it’s holding the center piece in so I'm going ahead start with that trying to bend that open. Let’s try it here like I said it’s not the easiest thing in the world. I try to almost have to bust it open. There might be an easier way that I haven’t figured it out yet. There we go? We have that first part out. Maybe a bigger pair of pliers but definitely be careful not to trip yourself out of the metal so there is one side down. Let’s see if we can get the other side apart. Yeah! It kind of looks they press them in there these little clips and something that this one won’t pop loose. I'm going to go to this side here, there you go.
And then once you get that apart everything. I believe this little piece here is brass. Yeah, it kind of looks like brass I'm not quite sure what material but I saw in a video out there where somebody is actually collecting these. So they might be good for a hydroxyl as a back flash material. I am not sure. Well, it’s a kind of a like a steel wool. It might be bronze, I'm not sure. Well, anyhow anybody knows what that is definitely so send me an email because I've been trying curious exactly what that metal is.
All right! Now they’re almost comes apart. We just get to those magnets because that’s the biggest goal. It looks like she must be dry to pop off lid. There we go, getting one lid off, that wasn’t so hard and there you go. We have now, a really strong magnet like so. I try to get these all to the floor here. Now there's inside this core there is a two pieces of carbon. I don’t know if those could be use for anything. There you go, there is the last magnet and it just pops off.
So here you go there are two good magnets. Now my goal is to get enough of these to make a big circle, right. Just like if you’re going to search out there you can find some people that have actually made these. These homemade stators by using these magnets and that’s what I want to follow, that’s what I want to build.
I think the trick is to find enough of these magnets that are the same size and same weight. It’s kind of hard to get apart. So there you go, that’s what I'm after in the microwaves is these magnets. They’re really strong. I guessed that I don’t know what kind of magnets they are but I know they’re really strong and that’s kind of what I'm after. If I get enough of them, let’s see I probably say maybe 12 or 13 of them and I pretty much got those already. I've just got to tear apart all these microwaves and get all these parts out of it.
So again I just want to give an update. Sorry, I haven’t made any videos. It has been kind of cold out here and now that it’s starting to warm up I'm going to get started on this stuff and hopefully to get some windmills going because I’ll definitely need them out there in that garden project that I've got going on and a crazy fish farmer YouTube and like I said before I just want to separate these videos that way but you don’t want to see just you know windmill type of stuff it would be on this channel.
Now as far as motors I've been trying to find some different types of motors to try to experiment with. A lot of people in Australia used that motor from Packle [ph]. I can't remember I can't pronounce the name but it’s a smart drive motor I believe and I can't find one here in the United States. But basically any permanent magnet type motor. I've been wanting to grab hold of the starter and actually see what it will do but the biggest thing is just being able to handle the RPM’s.
And well that’s it for now and follow more videos to come, I just want to get these out of the way and show everybody exactly what I was after in the microwaves. So there you go turn the magnetron every microwave has one. And some, I mean all different size magnets but ones that I have are pretty much close to the same size and that will pretty important for a building stator for those balance. Now you can buy these see them anywhere for two dollars and up a piece. So we all do say this but it will cost me four bucks to buy that but I don’t know I like tearing things apart so. There you go, we’ll see next time, take care.
