Hi, this is Cristina Dihar from exploremodeling.com. And today, I’m going to show you how to take a tear sheet out of the magazine so you can put it in your portfolio book. Now you want to do this carefully because you don’t want to get these really rough edges that look bad in your book. You want to look really professional and really clean.
Here’s the magazine. I’m actually in this magazine and I found the tear sheet. Here I am right here. And I want to rip this out of the magazine without making a mess. So what you want to do if you’re going to actually rip at the bind of this magazine. And you see how here’s my picture but I went pretty much into the front of the book because I don’t want to get too close to the picture. And I’m going to actually just rip this bind like that.
And then I’m going to slowly seek out to my picture by taking one at a time. And you see how by doing it this way I’ve rip the bind and it’s coming out with the very clean edge. Because when you put it in your book, it needs to look professional. So what I do is I go through and look for my picture.
Now I don’t take too many at once if you’re pretty far away which I am. You cannot take more. But another reason you want to do this is because you want the picture to not have a lot of wrinkles. By the time you get in your book, you want a nice, clean, new tear sheet. You don’t want anything that looks used or that someone’s been handling it.
Another way of doing this is asking the photographer or the client or art director for the actual digital file or jpeg. I actually prefer doing that because when you scan this, it creates this little pixilation and it doesn’t look good when you reprint it for a card.
But this is really easy to get. It’s all in the magazine and you can just go to your local bookstore or the drugstore and pick up your tear sheet. So that’s more convenient.
So you just keep going. This is actually a job that I almost got. It was down to me and I think two other people and obviously I didn’t get it. And here I am, so then I find my picture and I carefully remove it and there we go. Nice clean edge, perfect for the portfolio book.
