If you’re a small business computer consulting company, or owner or manager has been delivering services to customers or consumers and the B2C (Business-to-Consumer) space, you may be looking for another computer business opportunity to help you grow your profits and your client base.
Many small business computer consultants and various and integrators, solution writers, manage service providers, computer repair businesses find much greater opportunities in the B2B (The Business-to-Business) space as opposed to B2C, your Business-to-Consumer space and specifically within the Business-to-Business space looking at Sweet Spot Clients, that’s the term that we coined several years back to define small businesses that have anywhere from 10 to 75 computers.
The small business computer opportunity can help consultants find steady, long-term clients that are willing and able to pay for ongoing services. The following three tips we’re going to talked about introduce you to the B2B small business space and help you see and focus on your best computer business opportunity to help create your company.
First and foremost, do not focus on micro-small businesses and home-based small businesses. Many consultants moving from home users into the small business space make the mistakes of thinking that they can just ran out and get some small business plans and that will just happen like overnight as if they’re going to put the stuff under the pillow at night and the client come visit them and grace them with terrific client list, if only that were easy.
These folks to often don’t stop to think about where the true computer business opportunity is and that it’s not in very small clients. If you focused on home-based businesses and micro-small businesses, you will run into many of the same problems as a home users market and a B2C space. You won’t be able to retain long-term client or sell a lot of services even when you’re focusing on micro-small businesses that may technically be considered small businesses by a lot of people.
Why? Because it’s very difficult at most cases to sell ongoing service agreements and profitably service those companies that don’t have at least 10 computers and have an out grown peer-to-peer network and all the words they need to have dedicated server, clients sever network and have at least 10 more work stations to be worth it well. So do not focus on micro-small businesses and home-based small businesses.
Second, know the reasons why micro- and home-based small business clients are not profitable. As you’re looking for the best computer business opportunity, you need to know exactly why working with micro and home-based small business is not profitable. First of all, you’ll find a lot of consumer grade PC’s and pirated software. You know stuff that you don’t want to touch with the 10 foot pole.
Also, you'll find in micro and home-based small businesses many times will be reluctant to pay for services because they're so used to getting all the freebies from their friends or family members or other types of volunteers. How can you possibly compete with free?
Obviously you know your response title will be and the level of service will be better but if they’re hooked down on paying nothing, you know getting it for free that stuff to compete with because IT is not usually not as important to very, very small tiny micro small businesses.
Micro small businesses will also not usually need the great response time that you provide and won’t be willing to pay for it. So most importantly very small, small businesses, micro small businesses will be too small to afford a real dedicated server or a real client server network in most cases which gives you very little opportunity to build complex solutions and grow long-term relationship with them.
So, second you need to know the main reasons why micro-small business clients and home-based small business clients are simply not profitable in most cases.
Third, focus on Sweet Spot Clients. Again Sweet Spot Clients is the term we coined several years back and trademark several years back and it’s defined as small businesses that have anywhere from 10-75 computers. At this stage, you'll find prospects customer and clients that are willing to get serious about putting in a real client server network. A real reliable backup solution or dependable UPS power protection and a truly secure fire wall.
Small business decision makers in the space also understand that systems need to be designed for pretty sophisticated IT services and by networking professional. By computer and IT professionals which is where your computer business opportunity will be strongest.
As the small business starts growing, the stakes grow up for them and they need to invest more vigorously on IT. These owners recognize the needs to use IT more strategically. Amongst Sweet Spot Clients, small businesses have made the decision that IT is important to the company and that they can't afford a lot of downtime. In other words, they can't wait for the volunteer to show up for the freebie support to show up a week from Saturday.
They need someone who can coordinate everything and anything related to their computers and IT needs and take ownership with the whole problem from end to end for many, many years into the future.
