Male Speaker: Before the break, Melissa was telling us how her son has a bad habit of not brushing their teeth, so Dr. Jim and her friend dentist Dr. Bill Dorfman are here to help out. Gentleman, take it away.
Dr. Bill Dorfman: Alright. Okay, so you guys, you are not brushing your teeth enough. I'm over going -- days we are going to teach you why you need to do. The first thing you need to do is that you need to get the plaque off your teeth. Do you know what a plaque is?
Speaker: No.
Dr. Bill Dorfman: Plaque is a yucky stuff, we call it sugar bugs and what it is, it is bacteria, its food derby. It is a kind of sticky stuffing that builds up on your teeth. The reason you need to get the plaque off is because it causes cavities and you know want
Dr. Jim: Those hurt.
Dr. Bill Dorfman: And it also causes gingivitis that's bleeding gums. You definitely don't want that. So, we are going to teach you guys what you need to do so that will never happen. Now, in this we have a little cool blue solution. I want you guys to pick it up, go ahead and pick it up and we are going to rinse it with this and what this is going to do is it is going to show us all your plaques. So go ahead and switch around for about 30 seconds, keep going. Alright, go ahead and spit out and I am going to show you, what we need to do with a plaque, plaque.
Now there is a really simple, easy rule for you guys is to, they are blue. You can actually, hold this and up and left. There is a simple, easy rule for brushing. Okay, their circles 3, 2, 2, what circle? Circle is everybody do with me, you are going to make circular motions on your teeth. Okay, so that circle 3 is you have 3 surfaces. You got to go on the outside, you got to open up your mouth and you got to go on the inside here and you need to go on this side. So you got, 3 surfaces and you know 2 in 2 is twice a day. We have to brush at least twice a day and how long do you think you have to brush for.
Speaker: 2 minutes.
Dr. Jim: Good job.
Dr. Bill Dorfman: Squeeze your little brush that's called the firefly and these are really fun for kids because, what they do is they laid up for 60 seconds, so the important thing for parents is you got to pick the right toothbrush. Okay, because that if you don't pick one that will fit in the mouth, your children are not going to use it. You also want to make sure it is a soft toothbrush. Don't ever use those real hard ones. Because you will brush or gums away. The other thing that's important is the toothpaste.
Now when you pick toothpaste, you want to make sure that has a lot of fluoride in it. If you are under 2 years old, don't let your parents to use fluoridated toothpaste, because you need to spit up this fluoride. The problem is a lot of little kids will swallow the toothpaste and they get too much fluoride, which is called fluorosis and the teeth will growing with little marks on that will be on white and brown and speckle. Another thing Melisa that you are saying you just don't have the time to sit there for 2 minutes, to help them brush their teeth, like a lot of parenting, you are going to have it do by example and I with my kids, I found just sitting there brushing with them, may be giving a little cheer, sugar bugs, sugar bugs wash them off, while they are brushing is one of the best things you can do.
Male Speaker: Thank you so much gentleman. Good job kids. Alright.
