Hi, now we are trying to teach the outfielders how to play this on. We have got a great day here. The sun is bright, right behind in our eyes. So what we are try and do is start off with the outfielders, just put them out there, get a throw in direct line with the sun and we are just going to throw balls up there. His job is to first get his glove up to try and shade the sun and if the ball is still in the sun, he is going to try and work to an angle to get the ball that come out of the sun so we can find the ball. That's what his hob is.
Most guys wear sunglasses, but in a sun like we have today here, bright sun, no clouds. You are going to have to keep your glove up there the whole time to look for the ball. Try and get the ball to come out of the sun by going to the side if you can. Here we go. We are throwing him a couple of balls. See how he does to start with and then we advance to hitting later on.
Puts the glove up, shielding it, right there. He steps in to catch the ball. Good job! Try and do another one right up in the sun. He has got his glove up right there, catches it to the side. Great job. That's what we try to do to shield the sun. He didn't have to get to the side, the ball wasn't directly in the sun.
But sometimes you will see outfielders get to the side to try and see the ball and then go sideways to almost catch it. That's just to get the ball to come out of the sun where it is hitting directly into the sun. That's what we do on trying to play the fly ball in the sun.
