How do I stop my dog from chewing everything?
The best way to stop your dog from chewing everything inside is to use your crap training and confine your dog when you cannot watch him or her and also one of the mistakes that most people make is to get lots of choice for their dog. So that their dog always have something around they can chew on. This can actually backfire, because it sends a message to the dog that everything around them is available for them to chew on.
It's best to have several different types of choice and you can have choice reset. May be one set you would put in the dog's crap with him or her when you are gone, may be another set that you give the dog if you know you are going to be gone for a long period of time.
What I recommend is to get something that's very hard like a nylabone. You can also get something that's softer like a cotton floss that's basically a rope with a knot on each end and then I would take one other kind of toy some people like squeak toys, some people like tennis balls. What I recommend is that you watch your dog and find out if they like things that are very hard that they have to work on to chew or if they like things softer like the cotton floss and get them several toys that type of texture so that they can have them around. And then have may be two or three out at any given time and then rotate them if you would like to add more choice for your dog. So your dog isn't thinking that everything that I see and everything in my sight and I can put my mouth on is something that I can chew on.
How Do I Stop My Dog From Running Out The Door?
It's very easy to stop your dog from running out the door, especially if you are using the techniques that we have discussed in earlier on the DVD. If you teach your dog to sit and stay before going through any outside doorway, they will quickly learn that each time you open the door, there is something that they need to do first before they are allowed to pass through the doorway. You can do this when answering the door for the mailmen or when a friend stops by or just during the day if you want to use your training time in front of the door to practice this several times and to reinforce with your dog even when someone it's not there that they need to sit and stay and wait patiently until you give them the go ahead to tap through the doorway.
I would recommend when you practice this that your dog be on a leash or some other line. You can use a light close line so that your dog really doesn't feel that it's leashed, but that you still have some control of your dog, if it doesn't need both out of the front door, if it sees a cat or something else that catches its eye.
How Do I Stop My Dog From Teething on Me?
To stop your dog from teething on you. There is a couple of things that you can the. One of the easiest ways to get your dog immediately is to make a yipping noise, much like a puppy would make if he or she got bit by a sibling. I make noise similar to this. Usually, it gets the dog's attention right away and makes them stop, because they didn't realize what happened.
It's also connecting with your dog's brain on a doggy level, where you are not even having to communicate or your dog isn't having to translate what you are saying. They know that something bad happened and they stopped doing what they were doing. You can praise your dog and also you can give your dog, one of his or her toys that might be in your buy that they can chew on.
Generally, the first or second time that you make this noise, your dog is going to respond very quickly. Sometimes after that, the dog won't respond as quickly. So you might need to change up your noise and make them a little bit louder so the dog realizes that every time he or she puts his teeth on you, that it's painful and you want them to stop.
If they do continue on after this and you can't get them to stop in one session nibbling on you, I would recommend that you either separate yourself from the dog by putting the dog in his or her crap or an outdoor enclosure where they are safe and can play because they might just have a lot of energy that they need to burn off.
