How to Look For Signs that Your Man Might be a Sex Addict
On behalf of tvlesson.com, I'm Dr. Carol Clark, a sex therapist with drcarolclark.com. In this clip, I'm going to tell you how you can tell if you're boyfriend or husband is a sex addict. You know sex addiction is about a barrier to intimacy. The addict is in their addiction and always thinking about or doing their addictive behaviors or recovering from the affects. And so they're not fully present. They're not with you. And we've all had that experience of being around someone who just checks out mentally. They maybe still looking at us and appeared to be listening but you just know that they're not there. And that’s the main way to tell if someone that you're with a sex addict because they're just not present.
So it doesn’t matter if you’re in bed together, if you're doing the dishes together. If you're going for a walk, when you have that sense that they're not fully present, they're not aware of you. Then, they maybe a sex addict. Also, there's a sense of objectification which means that they're looking at you as an object not as a real person. A sex addict objectifies everyone they're having sex with because in their head, their doing a drug. They're doing the sexual behavior just to feel good to medicate pain, to not feel alone. But what they're doing is objectifying whoever they're with. And so, if you have that sense of being objectified when you're with your partner, then your partner maybe a sex addict.
There are maybe other problems as well. So please don’t go accusing someone of doing something that they may not be doing. But these are some signs to be aware of. And so that’s how you maybe able to tell if you're partner is a sex addict.
