Hey guys! In order to be a successful gardener, you have to worry about your soil conditions, your water, and also your sunlight. This year, I’m testing the sun conditions throughout my property with this great new product I found and it’s called the sunstick..
The sunstick is really easy to use. You take each sunstick and you assemble them. It also comes with three stickers. Now, that is where the emulsion is. And that’s what’s going to give us the reading. So, I’m just going to peel them off and place them right in the center of the sun. This disk is basically going to change color and I’m going to match it up to a chart and it’s going to tell me if I’ve got full sun, partial shade, partial sun, or shade.
The best time to use this product is during the growing season. You want to make sure that all the trees leaves have come in and you want to leave it for at least eight hours.
I started here on my vegetable garden. I’ve got full sun which is a good thing to know since I planted vegetables in here and they need full sun. Let’s go check what sunlight I have in other parts of my garden.
We’re going to check out what the sunstick says over here by my pond. We have full sun. I have full sun here on my perennial garden where I’ve got a lot of sun loving plants. The sunstick is so accurate that it was able to tell me that I had partial sun in this area, not partial shade.
So, I went to the garden center and purchase lots of plants that love partial sun. I’m here in my main garden. And this is where I grow all of my vegetables so I better have full sunlight in here. Yes, we do. We have full sun.
Now, I wonder where in my garden do I have any shade. Let’s go keep checking it out.
Hey kitty! Over here, I really want to grow great vines and according to the sunstick, I’ve got full shade. Well, maybe I can plant the great vines in here and you know they grow 20 feet in a year. So hopefully, they’ll just reach for that sun as quickly as possible and I can just cover this whole building with great vines.
