Female1: For my friend Sam’s recent birthday party, I wanted to create something fun yet sophisticated and thought of dim sum and then some party, would be just the same. As the guests arrive, they were greeted with this delicious Shanghai tinies of Vodka and Schaumburg. Chinese believe that red symbolizes good fortune and luck, perfect for a birthday celebration.
Traditionally, dim sum is served in the morning or for lunch but this small savory bites are the perfect to companion to cocktails and besides, it is always fun to break with tradition. Before the guest arrive, I like to scatter platters of dim sum around the buffet so guests can help themselves. In arranging the buffet, I like to do this festive and easy presentation for the chopsticks. You first fill a take out box with the dry rice and then just pop the chopsticks in the rice. You can fill other boxes with flowers which also make for fun party décor.
Serving a small bite of food on cocktail plates encourages guests to frequently return to the buffet. Perfect for keeping the party lively as guest can mingle and enjoy gracing of a wide selection of delicious dim sum. For the birthday party favors, I took flame take out boxes and line them with red tissue paper and then fill each box with this fortune cookies. For extra good luck, a double happiness sticker goes on the front of the take out box.
The best parties are not about perfection, but about enjoying the company of good friends and family and I cannot think of a better way to enjoy their company than with this little pieces of the heart.
While the water is boiling, so why do we steam the dumplings?
[Demo]
