Gia Russo: Wesley Titus is throwing a welcome home party for his Hawaiian girlfriend Kay Holoni. We're going tropical with the site, smells and flavors of Hawaii to make her feel right at home. Wesley lives right on the beach and the party will be held on his deck overlooking the Pacific. Some view you have, it's amazing.
Wesley Titus: We want to throw the dinner party down there.
Michele Adams: It's a good size.
Wesley Titus: I want your help on how to decorate this, make it a festive occasion tropical setting.
Gia Russo: Okay
Wesley Titus: She's from Hawaii, her parents are visiting here from Hawaii, we're going to love them in and I also want you do wonders and just show me what I can do with this place.
Michele Adams: Okay we only need to make them feel right at home so the tropical idea is great. We love that theme.
Gia Russo: I think we definitely get about 8 to 10 people here. We're going to have to be very, really creative. Would it be okay to move bar a bit.
Wesley Titus: Absolutely.
Gia Russo: Okay, We need to do is clear out some locked space which is really good for your deck.
Wesley Titus: Yes.
Michele Adams: And we'll do something with some great bright colors. You've got a great view so we can use that.
Wesley Titus: The deck is an absolutely wonderful place it sits right on the water and at sunset, throwing this party with her parents, it should we a wonderful evening, I'm really looking forward to it.
Gia Russo: Does Kay Holoni have any of favorite foods?
Wesley Titus: She is a really big fan of sea food and fresh fruits.
Michele Adams: Maybe just some sort of skewer things? Do you have a grill? Is that right?
Wesley Titus: I do have grill.
Michele Adams: Okay we'll do something that can be made ahead of time and set out on the table and then people can just pick and choose what they want to eat.
Wesley Titus: Oh that's great.
Michele Adams: Yeah, and for the drinks, we'll come up with a really good recipe.
Gia Russo: Maybe we should go to the fire market since they have such a great tropical flowers.
Michele Adams: Absolutely, we will bring in colors with leaves and flowers so it will really transform the space.
Wesley Titus: Make her feel right at home.
Michele Adams: Yes
Gia Russo: Yeah it will be wonderful for her.
Michele Adams: So let's get going.
Wesley Titus: Okay great.
Gia Russo: Our plan is create a tropical buffet table loaded with colorful flowers, lush foliage and tropical fruit. Luckily this is one stop shopping. Those are great.
Michele Adams: There's many bananas, we'll have to get some of those and some compotes.
Gia Russo: The star fruit are so beautiful when they are cut.
Wesley Titus: Mangoes always new.
Gia Russo: Yeah mango is good. We're going to line the deck with these cyprus plants. Tall potted plants like these create a natural border and backdrop for your party area. It's starting to feel like the tropics here on the mainland. We've got beautiful flowers for our table and foliage that will double as our serving pieces. Lush fruits will also take center stage on the table and in our menu.
We finished off our day by picking up some potted plants for the deck. Now it's just a matter of putting everything in place.
Michele Adams: We need to clear everything out first. Is there anyway you can move this out of here?
Wesley Titus: Okay, yeah.
Michele Adams: This is a Hollow Core Door and it's on top of two Saw Horse Legs and nobody will know because we are going to cover it all the way around with cross skirts and we're going to staple down it to the side and go all the way around it. Do you ever hula dance when you are in Hawaii?
Wesley Titus: No I've never been good enough to do that or probably drunk enough to give it a try.
Gia Russo: You never tried?
Wesley Titus: No I haven't. My girlfriend does all the time.
Michele Adams: The banana corn, I hope this isn't too long?
Gia Russo: I think its going to be very good.
Michele Adams: What we're doing is we're layering kind of in, you would say like a free form fashion.
Gia Russo: Very frequent, little organic.
Michele Adams: Yeah and so we're just going to play around like that because there is no right or wrong. We're just going to, kind of, build it and see what it looks like. Don't cluster too many of the same kind at one area. These are Star fruit they call that because when you slice them, it forms a star shape. We would season them for our table style and you can have them for breakfast tomorrow.
Wesley Titus: Wow that's great, starting to have the little outfield.
Gia Russo: Yeah it's right.
Michele Adams: Definitely its going to look a lot better than if you just plucked it out here on the table.
Gia Russo: Yeah definitely, it's going to be looking beautiful.
Wesley Titus: The girls are just so insightful with what they and their ideas and they are so easy to get along with and their ideas are very spontaneous and it's just really making this party just a really pleasure to throw and plan and it's all coming together so easy.
Michele Adams: We've got these candles and they are made in coconut cells and so we're going to place them around and give a little sparkle to the table. We've got all these amazing orchids. We though it'd be fun to flip them in these cute little containers.
Gia Russo: They are mimic a coconut, kind of Gilligan's Island like.
Michele Adams: I think people get so intimidated by flower arrangements and this is one way to still have flowers but not in a formal arrangement.
Gia Russo: And then we can also garnish with them, we'll garnish the food and we'll garnish the drinks tonight too.
Michele Adams: Exactly.
Gia Russo: I think it's looking really gorgeous.
Michele Adams: I do too, I think this is beautiful.
Gia Russo: If it wasn't for the cool Malibu breezes, you'd think we were in Hawaii. With the sound of the waves below and the smell of the tropics from the grill it feels like paradise. It's just a few minutes before party time and we're ready to welcome the guests. So what will Kay Holoni think?
Wesley Titus: It's really just coming together in an instant beautiful way and I think she'll be really impressed.
Gia Russo: Hello
Wesley Titus: Look, what do you think?
Kay Holoni: Everything looks great.
Wesley Titus: Gia and Michele helped me with this lovely party.
Gia Russo: Hi!
Wesley Titus: I could not have done it without them, brings some of little hula over here to Los Angeles for you.
Kay Holoni: I can't believe he went through all this trouble just to make me feel good.
Gia Russo: We used native flowers and foods to create an authentic and stylish environment that made our Hawaiian guests feel right at home. You can do the same thing to welcome your out of town guests. It's a nice way to show how much you care and it won't break the bank.
