Hi! Today, we are going to learn how to throw a jab properly. Like I said before, you can lean forward, elbows in, left hand a little bit higher than your right, and you shift your body forward with the punch.
Now when you throw the jab, you want to simultaneously—as your hand comes out, your body shifts forward, everything at the same time. You turned the hand like you are opening a door knob and you bring your body back.
So now, you are using the strength of your arm. You are also using the weight of your body. So, you are shifting the weight forward with the punch, straight out, straight in, straight out. As you can see—look from the side—as you can see, my chin is tucked in behind my shoulder at the end of the punch. So again, shift the body out, shift the body in. That way, it also gives a little room to have more distance between you and the opponent between jab.
Jab, jab, jab, making sure you are always at the end of the punch. Your right hand is well-planted and your right leg, that is. That is well-planted on the feet because if you punch with you right leg up, there is no power behind the punch.
So jab. When you lean forward, push off the back leg when you jab and go back, jab, and then step back because if you jab the same time you are stepping back, there will be no power behind the punch.
So again, jab, jab. As you see, when I am punching, I throw the jab straight out, straight in. The way that I like to look at it is I am punching straight down into a pipe and I try to hit the center of it, okay? Focus at point of your shots and let it rip. One, one, one, jab, jab.
